Good evening!

Fishy's post below has made me super hungry.  I'm making Coq au Vin for dinner - never made it before, so I hope it turns out yummy.  I keep eating the bacon and drinking the wine though...
I also started my fitness pal today.  Time to drop some pounds.  30-35 actually.  Unfortunately I love to eat.  I love carbs and cheese and I hate to exercise.  I'm guessing I don't have much of a choice now though...  My first step is to start brining my lunch to work everyday.  We get lunch catered in, but it is definitely not always a healthy choice.
Uggg.  What is everyone else up to this evening?

Re: Good evening!

  • Good evening!  I've had a long, busy day - worked from 6:30-4:00, then hit the gym, and then did a much-needed grocery shopping (we got back from Toronto last night and had very little food in the house).  I just was good and had a salad for dinner but I just bought a jar of Nutella at the store and I may or may not be dipping pretzels right in the jar.  So good, yet so bad.

I am excited for the Dancing with the Stars premiere tonight!  And fall TV in general.
  • I was in Nashville over the weekend and I was reminded just how not-young I am.  I was effing exhausted when I got home - I fell asleep on the couch around 8 last night, went up to bed around 11:30 and then got out of bed at 10 today.  I was SO glad I took the day off.
We have another bachelorette party in June in Vegas.  I  think I'm going to have to take a week off to recover.

  • Walk it Poli!  I went to school in Iowa City, which had a fairly large hill - well, large by Iowa standards.  Walking up and down that sucker did help for sure.  There was a big hill in Nashville, and my calves are noticing it today!
I have gained 15 pounds since my wedding in June.  I have no idea how.

  • I'm working on homework. We're having apple braised chicken for dinner, depending on when Rick actually gets home from work. Good luck with the weight loss! I started Weight Watchers 2 weeks ago and have lost 7lbs already, and have already noticed my clothes fitting better and my face looking thinner.
  • I did points  about a year ago and I lost 15 pounds, that was with running 1-2 miles a day.  I did it again before my wedding and didn't lose anything - and I was running 2-3 miles a day.  So I thought I'd try somethiing different.
7 pounds is awesome!  I'm hoping to be down 10 by the time my friend's wedding rolls around (Oct 23) and then we leave for our cruise Oct 31.

  • Dude. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW. I waited for a year and seriously gained like...40 pounds in a year and a half after said wedding.

I'm now ALMOST back to wedding weight. 2 pounds away! BUT I'm fitter and toner (more fit and tone?) than I was when I got married, so I think it's pretty much a wash.

I wasn't sure about the whole lifting weights thing, but I can TOTALLY tell a difference in my body with adding the weights and not just cardio.

  • Yeah I've gained about 30-40 since college, so I'm hoping to get back down to that.  Or at least where I can see pics of myself and not immediately 'untag' them on Facebook :)

  • Kelly, I can't run. I just can't make myself do it. For some reason I've found the elliptical easier to handle
  • I LOVE THE ELLIPTICAL! We bought one for the house, and I didn't think I'd ever run again either, but once I got in shape with the elliptical, running became easier, even on my knees.

And now my trainer sometimes throws in running with my weight lifting jazz in two minute intervals, and I actually enjoy it. I never thought I would.

  • Fischy, that's kind of what I'm hoping for. Rick loves to run, and it would be nice to be able to do it with him.
  • Oh yeah, the thought of running made me just not want to work out, and now I can *ALMOST* do the five K without walking. On a good day, I can.

I'm not sprinting, mind you, but it is DEFINITELY a jog. A really ugly jog. :)

  • We have a treadmill, so it's usually my go-to.  For some reason I don't feel like I get a good workout on the ellipitical.  I know you burn the calories, I just don't feel like I did.  Which i know it the whole point, but in my mind, it does not compute.  My knees have been killing me - I know it's from the weight gain.

  • Even if you kick up the incline and the resistence?

You burn way more calories on an elliptical, which I like.

OR YOU CAN JUST ZUMBA!!! Which is the shiit.

  • So, I'll videotape myself doing Zumba, and then you can use it as your workout video, K?

OH MY GOD IM KIDDING. Do you know how fucking ridiculous I look? But it's still good stuff.

  • Dude, I am as white as they come - my rhythm skills are non-existent.  My friend at work goes to Zumba. I honestly might as well be Helen Keller for how I'd be able to keep up.

  • Luckily, I live in FARGO, ND. None of us can move to save our souls so we all look really stupid all together! It's great.

  • I always do the hill intervals on the eliptical. Love it. Fisch, is Zumba really that good? We have classes for $1 here

I want this SO. MUCH. Pretty please? :)
  • My friend was pulled onto the dancefloor in Nashville this weekend, to 2-step.  That was hilarious.  Afterward, the guy says to me "So I guess ya'll don't 2 step in Chicago?"  Um no.
I think I would have to be drunk to Zumba, and that would probably defeat the purpose.

  • Jill, it's awesome. And for a 150 lb person, they burn about 530 calories an hour, so I burn about 700 :)

ITS SO FUN, and the hour goes by SO FAST and I can totally feel it in the morning. You'll seriously feel stupid to begin with, but as soon as it gets going, you realize the only person who looks good doing it is the instructor.

FOR ONE DOLLAR? I'd go every day. They are 12 dollars an hour here. I was thrifty and bought a punch card, but yeah. AT LEAST TRY IT FOR A DOLLAR!

  • Well, it's just once a week that they're $1, but the price for a card wasn't bad either. Maybe I'll check it out.
  • Good evening my E ladies!

I billed 10.5 hours today - which is a lot for me.

I've never Zumba'd but I used to do this crazy aerobics class back in the day.  I now run and spin and pretend to swim but really I haven't been in a pool for a looong time.  I had the best run yesterday.  I can't run as far as I used to because I had a stress fracture 2 years ago and haven't actually built the mileage back up.  Le sigh.

Oh and I just had super yummy salmon, asparagus and rice cooked by my lovely H.

  • I have tried to like salmon for years.  It always sounds so yummy - and I usually take 1 bite and don't eat anymore.

  • ITS ONLY 3 hours and 15 minutes!! Let's plan something! I'm totally down! Even if we meet in St. Cloud?

  • Fishy I think we need to make our own guild.  I don't really know what a guild is, but I feel like I need to be a part of one.
    Photobucket
  • YES. A GUILD IT IS. Where shall we have it?
