Confessions Thursday

I feel old.  My son just finished his kindergarten year and will be in first grade come fall.  He's turning 7 in August.  AHHHHH!!!!!!!

I want to wear white to my brother's wedding.  I keep looking for a dress to wear and all the cute ones happen to be some version of white.  Stupid old traditions...but I am trying to obey ettiquette.  Blah.

I want one of three things (or a combination) to happen this summer: I want teachers to realize they hate their job and quit in massive loads, I want a good amount of teachers in Ohio to retire, and/or I want a huge increase in student enrollment, forcing schools to have to create more classrooms due to high ratios.  Case in point, I WANT A TEACHING JOB!!!

I'm sad my Chi died.  I've had that hair straightener for over five years and used it nearly every single day.  I'm searching for a replacement today!

  • I'm hoping to get a dog for my son for his birthday.  Does anyone have any recommendations for small or medium sized dogs that are good with children?  We live in a subdivision, but will certainly go for walks and out to the park.  We're home a lot, able to dedicate attention and time.

So far my list consists of the following:
    Atlas Mountain Dog
    Border Collie
    Cairn Terrier
    West Highland White Terrier
    Minature Australian Shepherd
    Shetland Sheepdog

  • I hear Border Collies are great, but my vote would have to be for a larger dog like a lab.  :)  Labs are very much people dogs but are EXTREMELY energetic when they are younger!

We had one when I was born, and it was as if the dog guarded me.  Mom has pictures of me in the bassinet with the dog laying on the bed looking in on me.  Buddy (our dog at the time) also let me climb all over him.  The one we have now (Rusty) sits in Dad's lap on the couch.  It's hilarious.  A 100 lb lap dog!

See, one of my aunts once bred labradors and I think golden retrievers are so adorable but I don't think I could walk that big of a dog.  It would be taking me for a walk!  I know you can teach them to heal and all but I guess I think of what could happen if they see a squirrel or something.

  • My family just got 2 Australian Shepherd puppies (nomal size). My best friend in elementary had one it it was very playful.

I grew up with Corgis. I am in love with these dogs. My FI and I want one so bad but now is not the time to have a new addition to our family of 3 (us and our cat). Corgis are adaptable. They would be happy living in a studio apartment or a 500 acre ranch. Boys tend to be friendlier and more relaxed then females.

The thing with terriers is they are very feisty dogs. Like all breeds they can live with children but are not what dog people would recommend as being good with children.

We lived next to Boarder Collies when I was young. They were very nice dogs. The neighbors grandchildren and I never had any problems with them.

Poodles and Beagles I hear are good dogs to own.

  • Lhasa Apsos are great little dogs, just make sure to keep reminding it that YOUR the boss, not it.

From your prelim list, I see A LOT of high energy dogs, which need really long walks or multiple walks per day.

I found a site which can let you read up on some of those breeds you mentioned, as well as others: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/abc.htm

  • Thanks girls for the all the suggestions.  I do know we'd be able to spend a lot of time and energy with the dog.  I had a Cairn Terrier growing up and she lived for 16 years.  She was my only, and this will be our first one since.  I know I can't wait to be a pet owner again (even if technically it'll be Alex's dog). =)

  • I'm frustrated about finding a dress.  Not for my wedding, but for my friend's bridal shower at the end of July and for the Chieftain's dinner at the Maine Highland Games in August (going to buy one and use it for both events).  Each dress I try on makes me look and feel like a house.  My hips have NEVER been small, even when I was a lot thinner, but every time I put on a dress, it makes my hips look like they stick out more than they actually do.  I think I might just have to go with a skirt and nice top instead.

Sometimes, I want to throttle my FMIL.
The woman can be insufferable, and generally is.  Rarely is she someone I want to spend time with.  I say she's 70% annoying (and that's using a polite word) and 30% tolerable; the FI says I'm being generous and thinks it's more 99% annoying and 1% tolerable.  And for the record, I have TRIED being nice, and I have TRIED getting to know her, but she's the type of person who isn't happy unless she is complain about something and she doesn't like anyone.  She and I also have entirely different tastes.  The way she originally tried to get to know me was trying to get me drunk and got upset because I didn't want to drink at the time.  I have to stop here, or else I could turn this into a REALLY long vent about her.

I wish we could move east sooner.  The FI and I have both agreed that we want to move back east to MA (and nearer my family, the FI LOVES my parents).  We can't afford to though, and with me not working, we have a hard time saving up to do so.  The FI's parents also say that we're "not allowed to move" (because then he wouldn't be around to do everything for them....again, I won't go further, or I will vent).  It's to the point in which we'd be happy just moving to Eugene or Salem or Portland or Seattle just to get AWAY from his parents.  I just want the FI to be happy, and being here isn't making him happy.

I want to go back to school, but I can't.  I have been really thinking about going back to school to either finish my English degree or start a new major that I'd be more ineterested in (like Biblical History or Religion).  But save for going to a Christian college (which is totally NOT how I want to stoudy those two subjects mentioned), there is no where I can find that offers those kinds of courses in this area; European or American History would be my next two choices, but the college in town doesn't offer those courses either (I'd have to go to the campus 45 minutes away, and with no car and no public transit in the area, that's not an option).

I am debating about getting a tattoo.  I've been going back and forth on this for probably the past 5 or 6 years.  On one hand, I want one, on the other, I'm not one for pain or any kind (though I have a relatively high tolerance for it).

  • I'm secretly avoiding any wedding planning (except for talking on the boards at TK) cause im so confused and making myself stress out.  FI is actually starting to ask questions and I've been responding in general answers because I just dont want to do anything :/

Is there such thing as a wedding planning rut?

I dont think its to early... :)  I already have my dress....bought it 2-3 weeks ago.  I actually thought it would take me months and months... first day, second store... probably the 15th dress and I knew it was the one.  Plus it was discontinued and it was the last one........ so I got a major deal.

If you want to look now, I say go for it!

I have my dress, too!  It was perfect, and I didn't want it to be discontinued before it was actually a more "proper" time to get it.

    I know it's Friday, but I'll do a confession...

    1. I'm about to lose my patience with the kids at Vacation Bible School.  AND the adults for that matter.  Okay, so they voted for me to be director, and then NONE of them showed up to help for 2.5 weeks for preparation?  My mom and I were the only ones that did jack diddly squat, but last year, everyone about broke their neck to help that director.  I'm tired of the "clique" they have going on...  AND I refuse to call anyone to "guilt" them into helping.  This just shows what type of people they are...

    Whew.  That was nice.  :)

    2. I'm not doing much at work today.
    3. I'm not doing any wedding planning either!

Other than that, I really try to live a drama free life.
