Budgeting

It's high time I set up an online or Excel budget for myself.  If you do this, what program do you use?  If you do it on Excel, is it possible for you to send me a template (obviously deleting all numbers, as that is none of my business)?

TIA!

EDIT: Looks like this might be a P&R.  I'll check in later.

Wedding budget or just in general life budget? I know if you google excel budget spreadsheet, templates will pop up.

    Edit: This might help?
  • Here is the link to his website: http://www.daveramsey.com/tools/budget-forms/

I do mine in excel, it looks like this:

Everything is organized by date (duedate/payday) and then reorganized to fall under whatever paydate I want it paid from, it says what it is that is being paid/saved/etc, how much the bill is for, and what day it was paid on. Ive been keeping it this way for almost 2 years now, and it keeps me organized. Its easy to edit too.
I cant tell if that can even be read or not... sorry
  • You can also use something like Mint.com, but I have mixed feelings about it. (It replaced QuickenOnline, which I think was better.)
  • i definitely suggest trying mint.com. i know not everyone likes it but i loooooooove it.
  • I made my own budget using an excel spreadsheet. Something that I did for FI and I that has made a difference is adding a page on the bottom for credit cards. On that page, I included the amount charged to the card, the interest rate, etc., and explained present values and future values, and why it's important to pay stuff off and how much things cost if we stretch out the payments. It's made many discussions about questionable purchases much easier. We plug it into the credit card page and that usually helps us come to an answer.
  • I use Quicken to do all our banking and budgeting.  It's that time of year again.  I need to sit down and put something together and go through it with H this weekend.
  • I'm an office manager, so I use excel for everything.  I have budgets & money tracking spreadsheets for all my personal expenses.  However, my wedding budget spreadsheet is not very detailed at the moment.  I just have a list of our vendors that we have booked to date, their contact info, what's included, the contract amount, deposit amount, and balance due/due dates.

Overall, spreadsheets are very easy to set up and you can customize it based on what you need.

  • Mine's very similar to Nebbs.
I have a deposit section, a standard monthly bills section with the dates expected and dates actually paid and then an everything else section for grocery, gas, and unplanned expenses.  I update every couple of days.

  • I am another Quicken user.

Mint.com caught my interest, but it only works with US banks and that doesn't help me much anyomore.

  • Thanks for all the input everyone!  I sure do have a lot to think about...
