Cigar roller for reception?

Did anyone have a cigar roller for their reception/cocktail hour? I was at a friends wedding this weekend and he had one. It was a beach wedding in key west though so it was already a lot more casual than most but a lot of the guests really seemed to like it. I know some people get worked up about cigars and/or smoking so maybe it's not worth having it and dealing with that; thoughts?

I'm just imagining having to deal with all the men smelling like cigars for the rest of the night. I'm not a fan.

We actually talked about doing this Vegas. It sounded like a great idea, but we didnt have a big wedding. And the laws in Ohio suck for cigar rolling receptions.

But I think its a great idea.

ETA: but of course I'm the bride who would be smoking too. Love me some Monte Cristos.

I think it would be fine if that's what a lot of your guests are into. If not, I wouldn't waste the money.

My FSIL had one at her reception and to this day, is really happy that she did. It was one of those things that people still bring up about her wedding. A lot of the guys really enjoyed it.

I am having one at our wedding - alot of the men on my FI smoke cigars & our friends do also. He will be stationed by the doors which lead to the outside and he doenst start rolling until after we cut our cake. Obviously everyone would smoke outside or take their cigars with them. They don't know we are having it and are really going to enjoy it. Its not for everyone, but I like the idea.

Our cocktail hour is going to be outdoors so should be safe in that regard. This one on the beach was outdoors too of course. I'm guessing some of the wives/SO's did not like the end result of their guys having cigar breath all night; I did overhear some "Honey I should smoke a cigar, they went through the expense of having the guy here" LOL

Cigar breath is just as bad as cigarette breath. Chew a piece of gum and deal with it. LOL. Hate catty woman like that. I will keep breath mints by my cigar table for those complaining people!!

I’ve been to weddings that have this and I personally don’t like it, but then I don’t smoke. Aside from the smell, the other thing I didn’t like is that since you have to smoke outside (in MA), it took a lot of people out of the reception room. I guess that is nice if you have a nice patio or something, but it kind of killed the dance floor.

Mmkay. That would be alright then I'd think, and if they're into cigars, I bet it'd be awesome. We just have this one customer who always comes in smelling like the smoke and it makes me gag.

I don't think not liking cigar or cigarette breath makes someone catty. The smoke and scent of most of them aggravate my asthma and migraines, so FI knows better to smoke them when he's going to be around me. It's not because I'm a controlling biitch, it's because he doesn't want to take me to the hospital.

I think it's kind of cool. I hate cigars, the smell kills me. But I like the idea. I also think it's a thing for the guys and being that you're doing a lot of the wedding planning while your FI is in school, a special treat for you and your buddies might be in order. I know in NJ they run about $350 and up depending on quality and quantity and how many rollers you have. Lots of entertainment companies here are offering this as part of their services, like right under photobooth on their price list. I say go for it if you think it's something you and your guests will enjoy.

I am on the fence with this. I think it is a good idea and that most people would like it. However, cigar smoke really bothers me and depending on where people were smoking and how it is set up etc. I would probably have to leave. It sounds like your wedding is a DW. It would be unfortunate to have travelled all that way only to be unable to attend. I am not sure how many people are affected by cigar smoke but it is something to keep in mind.

I am talking about the type of catty woman who constantly complains about these things when they married or date a smoker. I should have clarified what I wrote. I went to a wedding with a cigar roller and a few of the wives sat in one corner bitching about the men...so they seemed catty to me. I didnt stop my FI from enjoying his cigar but I did give him gum before he came near me.

Personally, I can't stand the smell and I am allergic to the smoke (as is H) so we would probably leave once everyone lit up. Even if it is outdoors, if enough people are doing it the smell will get pretty bad. I know others would enjoy it though.

I would provide a disclaimer on some written piece of invitation if you HAVE to do this. "We are having a cigar bar at the reception, please take this under advisement if you have sensitivity."

I might include something on the wedding info site; some of our guests may not realize how much smoke you encounter in a casino in Vegas if they've never been so this thread has made me aware that could be a larger issue to some than others and I wouldn't want them to come all that way only to realize they can't get from their room to the reception without crossing the casino floor.

Would your venue even allow this? Is there an adjoining room you can make a sort of smoking lounge?

I wouldn't think badly of people providing a cigar bar from the sense that it encourages smoking, because I think cigars are much more often special occasion items than are cigarettes. However, I genuinely can't stand the smell of cigars. I don't particularly like the smell of cigarettes, but I used to walk by a cigar shop on my way home everyday, and I HAD to hold my breath the whole time.

We went to a wedding last fall that had a cigar roller and everyone loved it. The reception was inside the ballroom of hotel and the cigar roller was stationed by a door that led to a courtyard. I'm not typically a cigar fan though my dad and some of my guy friends are but after a few glasses of champagne I found myself in the courtyard with the guys lighting up. It was a memorable experience though sitting outside smoking in the courtyard was one of the less-classy moments of the night though that was probably a symptom of the open bar.
