  Since your BM's are all wearing different dresses of varying lengths and styles it might be a good idea to let them pick their own shoes. That way they can choose something that looks good with their particular dress style. You could ask them to all wear the same color or something if you want them to coordinate somewhat.

  
  

   For the GM, if you really want them to wear a particular shoe you should consider purchasing it for them. I would say the same thing if you wanted to mandate that the BM's all wear the same shoe. What is their reason for not wanting to wear Converse All Stars? (I think that sounds really cute, BTW!) What does your FI think about it? Since they are his GM he definitely gets a say in their attire.

  Are you asking your girls to wear Converse with their BM dresses or are you just talking the guys?
  
  I'm a big fan of letting people choose their own shoes.  If you are mandating a particular shoe you need to buy it for them.

  If you're making them all wear a specific shoe, you need to pay for it.  Also, please keep in mind that what's comfortable for you isn't comfortable for everyone - I actually can't wear Converse without my feet dying because they're narrow, and I also think they look really, really ugly on me.  I would be pretty unhappy if I had to shell out my own money for something I hate, will hurt me, and I'll never wear again.  (And I don't hate Converses universally - my FI wears, loves, and looks cool in them - I just hate them on me.)

  If you want them to wear a particular shoe, converse or dress shoe or whatever, you have to pay for them.  Have your FI call the guys and get their sizes, and then go over and buy them all.  Do the same for the ladies.  

  
  

  If you do not want to pay for them, tell them they can choose their own shoes.

  Hmm... I didn't realize that OP's post could also be read as to wanting the entire WP to wear Converse. IMO Converse might be cute for the guys but not for the girls. Regardless of my personal opinion PP's are right about the fact that if you want everyone to wear a specific shoe you must purchase it for them. It's not a matter of consideration like I stated earlier. [Edited for clarity.]
