NWR: Would you go to Vegas by yourself?

Sigh... so one of my friends and I booked a long weekend in Vegas at the Red Rock Casino for September. We were going to see Don Henley while we were there and spend some time at the bars, clubs, spas, pool etc.

Anyway, today she tells me she has just accepted a new job and she HAS to be there that weekend.. which means no vegas for her.

I'm not mad at her, and understand completely, but I'm really bummed. The tickets are non-transferrable and non-refundable, so I was thinking of just going by myself.. but is that weird?? To go to vegas alone and to a concert alone?

I wouldn't. I'm too much of a paranoid 'fraidy pants to do that.
Is there no one else that could take her ticket and go with you?
• I would, but I've traveled alone before and have zero problems with it at all.

• I don't have the personality for it so I wouldn't (even though I love Don Henley). But I have friends I can picture going and having a great time. Obviously, be careful if you go alone.

• I'd love it. A whole hotel room to myself? Complete control over the cable? No discussions over where and when to eat? Sign me up!
• Yep, especially if I already had a plane ticket and hotel room. I've travelled all over Europe alone and it was fun.

One of my friends goes to Vegas by herself all the time- she likes to lay by the pool and go to the spa. You should go, definitely.

• I went to Vegas for a work conference alone and it was fun. I'd totally do it again. But, then again, I travel by myself for work pretty regularly.

I didn't do a ton of sightseeing on the Strip or anything, but I did a lot of shopping and eating and some gambling in my hotel and enjoyed the totally awesome hotel room. I wouldn't do it for a week or anything, but for a couple of days? Hell yeah.

I've actually considered going to vegas JUST to do this by myself. Ahhhhhh peace and quiet.

• I would, but I've been there several times before and I know my way around. Actually, come to think of it, a lot of the times I've been there before I've pretty much been on my own since husband is working
• Personally, I wouldn't do Vegas alone. I'd find another friend to go. However, there are some vacations I'd take by myself, like Europe.

You should, that's why she goes. Some people need alone time. I think she might play a little poker, but mostly... does nothing.

I don't know that I would choose to go to Vegas by myself, but again, if everything is already arranged/paid for- definitely. Be smart and you'll be fine. Oh, and Red Rocks is not on the strip, so that makes it a little better, really.

• Kiki makes a good point - I've stayed at Red Rock before, absolutely awesome resort, pool, spa... I'd feel totally comfortable being there alone. And since you said that you already do a lot of things by yourself, I think you'd have a great time!

• I would totally go by myself! I've been to Vegas a ton of times and even lived there for awhile. So, yeah, I've wandered the Strip and off the strip and all around the place myself.

The thing is, when you go gambling, you're pretty much by yourself, anyway.
When you go to the buffets (Red Rock has an AMAZING one, btw) you sometimes go up to the food by yourself.
It's really like going any other place by yourself.
You get up when you want, you even have the bathroom to yourself. You decide when and where to go and when.

Then again, i'm not into clubs and bars and that sort-of scene. If you are, then you might want a friend to accompany you.

• Alright, it's settled - I'm going!! Haha I'm an easy sell. Your posts gave me more confidence in my decision to go. I'm back to being excited now!
To the girls who have been to Red Rock before - is there anything you recommend? Did you find things like food and the spa to be over-priced?
Also, has anyone checked out the concert venue there? What is the sandbar like? I've heard mixed reviews online, but can't seem to find a lot of detailed answers, or even any pictures of the concert site.

Thanks girls!

• Traveling on my own is probably one of the most important things I did for myself. It kind of makes me sad that so few people would do it.

• I been to vegas quite a few times but not by myself. However, I have no problem going alone and having a great time by myself. Just make sure of your surroundings and try to party in your hotel, I wouldn't venture out across the strip in the middle of the night alone. You should go and have fun at the concert !

Feast Buffet!

Oh and they have a restaurant there, Terra Rosa, that's owned by the first winner of Hell's Kitchen. If you're a fan of that show, at least try to snap a picture from the outside, lol.

I never tried the spa stuff... mostly I know where their best video poker machines are...

Ditto this. I'm not even an international traveler, and I travel almost 100% for work, but it is really restorative to just get out there and be on your own away from home for awhile. I love being home and DH and my pets and stuff, but it's nice to have a few days where you CAN'T vacuum or pay bills or run errands. I'm already looking forward to my next long-ish work trip in September.

• I had a work conference there in April so essentially I was there by myself (as no co-workers came with me.) It was a little lonely simply because everyone in Vegas has their friends with them but I had fun. When I wasn't working I laid by the pool, walked the strip to sightsee, etc.

I had been to Vegas 3 times before so there wasn't a lot to sightsee so I think it would have been more fun had I not been there before.

Although I don't think I would go by myself if I wasn't staying on the strip.
• I would totally do it. I have gone to concerts by myself (as well as dined alone many times) and have traveled in Europe by myself.

In fact, when I have gone to Vegas wtih friends I have spent lots of time alone because they don't gamble.

I guess the question is, Why wouldn't you?

(note that I see you have already been convinced to go but this is just my 2 cents).

• I agree, moose. I think my trip to Europe gave me so much confidence. I learned that I could do stuff on my own. It just instills this sense of pride, like "wow, if I can navigate the subway in Rome by myself, what else can I do?" I've always been a really independent person, but travelling alone was just really fulfilling.

But anyway, as far as Red Rocks, I haven't stayed there myself. I have heard it has an amazing spa, though, so if you feel like splurging a little go for it!

• I just reread the OP...this is a long weekend? 3 or 4 days? Honestly, between the spa, pool, concert and some craps, you'll be fully occupied. It's not like you'll be in Vegas for a week by yourself.

• I loved the Japanese/sushi restaurant there. I had a pedicure at the spa and it was probably one of the best pedicures I've ever had. I haven't been to the concert venue but a friend who lives in Vegas has said it's pretty cool.

• I went to Vegas with a friend, who got the flu when we got there, and so "did" Vegas alone...all the touristy stuff. Gambled, drank a little, had dinner at excellent restaurants, walked the strip, etc. I would TOTALLY go.
I have also been to concerts alone, and really, its kinda fun!!
I updated my bio on 06/24/10, however if you want to see my planning bio you have to go to www.lizardlipsplanningbio.weebly.com because I am having a hard time making it clicky!
• I would totally go. I've done a lot of traveling on my own before and while I wouldn't necessarily *choose* to do Vegas alone, I think you'll still have fun. I'd sure hate to see $500 go to waste!
• I wouldn't PLAN to go alone. But now it's paid for and it's use it or lose it. So I'd definitely go and enjoy relaxing on my own. Actually, that sounds really nice!

You could also bring someone else to accompany you since all they'd need is a plane ticket.

So, I'd go. I traveled for work and spent a lot of time alone in interesting places. Once I spent a week in three cities in Alaska. I only had meetings for about an hour a day, and then I was on my own. I played pub trivia with the locals, toured some museums, and went whale-watching.

Would I have loved for DH to have been there? YES. But he couldn't come, and I'm so glad I went, even though it was alone. Go!
