40-Plus Brides

Oooooo, hi girls!

I just found this board, and was so excited until I saw the "for first time brides..."

I was married once before, but I would love to join in!  I swear I'm not crazy (well, maybe just a little, but the good kind)...what'ya say?   :)

[QUOTE]Hi LR!  Welcome, and pay no attention to the first-time brides thingy.  We're pretty inclusive around here, so we have first-timers and second-timers (and beyond too).  Come on in and stay a while! Tell us about you.  And are you in GR or just the GR market?  I'm in Kzoo but that's considered GR for Knot purposes.  Makes the local board less useful, but whatever.

Awww, thanks for the welcome!  I'm getting married on the ever popular 9/10/11 in Ravenna, MI.  I grew up in Muskegon and currently live in Greenville, about 20 miles north of GR.

I have 4 (wow) kids...20,12,10 and 8.  The oldest is the BM in the wedding, my FI has been more of a dad to him than his own father.  We have 1 fur baby, a tuxedo cat named Ceasar.  I manage a rehab department in a skilled nursing facility and also have a weekend job at a hospital so mama can pay the bills :)

I'm so glad this board is here, I just turned 40 and man, I still feel 20 inside~I'm not going down without a fight!
  • Welcome!!!  Tell us more about your wedding.

I still have over a year until we get married.  This my first marriage and FI's second. He's got 2 daughters, 14 and and 10, and we've got a fur baby too.  Look forward to sharing ideas and random thoughts with you! : )

Welcome, LRaider!  I am a second time bride, too.  This will be FI's third trip down the aisle.  I'm definitely more crazy than not, which is a very good thing!  I'm glad there is someone else whose son will be a best man.  So now, my dear, let's see your shoes (I'm all about the shoes!).  Cheers!

Here's my son, now age 18, who will be my best man:

Oh yeah ... and here are my shoes (yes, that is snakeskin):

  • Haha, thanks for the warm welcome everyone~more proof that our generation ROCKS!

Our wedding is going to be outdoors on the reception grounds.  Its going to be sort of spiritual rather than religious as we are from totally different faiths.  I guess if we have a "theme" it would be woodsy chic lol.  Our centerpieces are candles, lanterns and branches/berries and the colors are plum and forest green.  We are inviting around 130 guests.  We haven't completely nailed down the menu but we have until a month before the wedding to do so...too many choices!

I DIY'd the centerpieces and that's about it...I would have loved to do more but Martha Stewart I am not!

I'm most excited to walk down the aisle and see him waiting for me there, I know it sounds mushy!  I'm a sentimental chick :P

Also, I'm a tad wise ass as well...and I cross the proverbial line of appropriateness sometimes, I apologize in advance!

    And the pics....

    Shoes!

I'm so excited to learn more about you all as well, I have a lot of stalking to do!  Happy
    freakin' Friday!

  • Lisa - you are beautiful!!!!!

I will be 40 in July and this is my 2nd wedding.  This board is awesome!  All the ladies are great.
  • Great pic of you and the lad Lisa!

Welcome LRaider  I'm probably one of the smart a$$es Karen is refering to but you know what <lowers voice to gossipy whisper /> she invited a strangler to her wedding!

I'm still clutching my pearls over that!
  • My daughter is 25 and will be one of my Bridesmaids, and she has 2 kids, 1 daughter 4 who will be my flower girl and a 2 yr old son. My daughter just got married to a guy who had a 4 yr old girl too, so BAM, 2 flower girls. My sons, 18 and 16 will be walking me down the aisle.

My mom, daughter, blood granddaughter (on left) and new granddaughter at my Bridal Shower. That's me in the middle

My sons. Both will walk me down the aisle, and the one on the left will play acoustic guitar as the one on the right does a reading.
I am 6 foot, isnt the one on the left HUGE lol

  • You're a grandmother Karen!?
  • Yes, Oldest will be 5 in August.
  • The more of us the merrier.  Welcome!!  :)

    Love is the ultimate superpower.
It can make you weak and strong simultaneously.

  • Welcome!

I am 40, my FH is 50, this is my 2nd, his 3rd, the last for both of us (LOL).  We have 4 kids between us, his are 29 and 21, son and daughter, mine are 11 and 7, boys, and he has a beautiful little granndaughter from his son, Kaylee, who was born February 16th.

We are getting married on June 18 - it's almost here!

I am sooo glad for this board - it is nice to talk to no-nonsense brides who are more level-headed and less starry-eyed like the 20-somethings on the other boards (no offense to any of those awesome ladies).

  • Welcome!

Yeah, we talked about making the tag line more inclusive, but it didn't go anywhere. It hasn't seemed to matter too much--the right people seem to keep finding us Laughing

Some of us just didn't feel quite right in the Second Weddings board--although there's lots of nice and wise folks there too.

    Thanks -- to everyone -- for the compliments on the photo.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-embarassed.gif" border="0" alt="Embarassed" title="Embarassed" />

About those shoes ... it was crazy trying to find what I wanted (strappy, maybe metallic), because my dress color just wasn't accomodating what I found in the stores.  Somehow I found shoesofprey.com and that was it!  They are similar to a pair I found on the site, but since every pair is custom, I got a lower heel (just 2.5") so I can stay in them all night.  The funny thing is, I'm more stoked about wearing them after the wedding than for the big event.

I am a regular on Second Weddings, but lately there has been so much guilt and angst it's been bringing me down -- this board rocks!

    So again, welcome!

[QUOTE]Lisa, what's going on with Second Weddings?  I've never visited that board.  Guilt and angst?  That sucks...I can come up with plenty of that in real life; I sure don't need to voluntarily subject myself to more online.

Lots of new ladies on 2nd weddings that are getting crap from their friends and family about having a big wedding this time.  Such a bummer.

So to cheer us up - here are pictures!

This is Maggie.  Sadly she got cancer this past fall and passed away.  Now I have no fur babies.  (but I'm planning on one later this summer! shhhh though don't tell my kids!)

And another more recent (even though last summer) of my daughter Alex.

    Happy Sunday!
  • shytown~love the pics, your daughters are so cute!  Sorry about the loss of your furbabys...it's so hard, we lost a beloved kitty about a year ago and my 8 yr. old daughter still cries if she sees a photo of him :(
