Im tired of...

sitting in the dark, its quiet and im bored and I just want to turn on the damn lights. I decided to pass the time reading in the bath, but even with 7 candles it was hard to read and I was a little scared of knocking something over and starting a fire. Now I am sitting in the kinda dark wishing I could watch tv :( or just DO something else.

What are you doing? Is there anyone even here right now?

Im actually not sure, I cant seem to find any stats regarding earth hour (other than the one I read in an article), which I find a bit disappointing.

On MythBusters, they tested the myth that when you turn off the lights in a room when you only leave the room for a short period of time, it uses more energy to turn the lights back on than it would to just keep them on. It turned out to be completely untrue, so this is probably the same. Unless people are just turning on everything as part of a vendetta for being bored for an hour.

Here are the stats from that test:
It's best to turn off the bulb if you are leaving the room for:

Incandescent: 0.36 seconds

CFL: 0.015 seconds

Halogen: .51 seconds

LED: 1.28 seconds

Fluorescent: 23.3 seconds
Any amount of time over these and you use less energy turning off the light.
I didn't even know about it turning off the lights until I was sitting in my car reading the news on my iphone. We just got home from work and decided not to do the last 15 minutes. On a normal basis we unplug everything but the refrigator and the fish tank if we are not using the item.. I mean everything, TV's, clock radios, evertying. . So I'm justifying not doing the last 15 mintues because of what we do daily.

That's sort of how we are - if it can go into standby mode, we put it on a power strip and shut the strip off at night or when we're gone. Except in the office, I ran out of power strips. But the only thing in there is my printer.
