How much alcohol do we need to buy?

For our wedding we are serving alcohol but only 4 signature drinks.
We are having about 100 guests and the bar will be open from cocktail hour until just after dinner (we are hoping this will keep people from driving home drunk).
Our signature drinks are:

Mojito
Mimosa
Jack and Coke
Vodka Cranberry

We will also have beer and some wine.
I was just trying to find out how much alcohol we would need to buy.
Thank you everyone for any help.

Re: How much alcohol do we need to buy?

  • If you want to ensure you have plenty, and don't mind if you have leftover booze, I'd plan on 1 alcoholic drink per hour, per guest.  The light drinkers and heavy drinkers usually even out.  This is assuming you also have plenty of non alcoholic beverages, and a meal/food.

Assuming average drinkers with a variety of tastes, I'd count on 1/2 the total alchol in liquor, 1/4 in wine, 1/4 in beer.  One bottle of wine serves 4-6 glasses, and 1 oz alchol = 1 serving. So for serving 100 guests alcohol for 3 hours:

Wine: 25 guests X 1 X 3 hours = 75 glasses of wine (12-15 bottles total should be plenty, assorted varieties).

Beer:  25 guests X 1 X 3 hours = 75 beers, which is roughly 3 cases of cans or bottles.  A pony keg is about 80 servings.

    Liquor: 50 guests X 1 X 3 hours = 150 oz of alcohol or roughly 4.5 one liter bottles of alcohol (1 liter = approx 33 ounces).

For light to moderate drinkers, this might be overkill.  For heavy drinkers and a long reception, it might not be enough.

What I'd do is buy a liter sized (or larger if you want extra) bottle each of Jack, Rum, Champagne, and Vodka, make up a batch of each signature drink, and let them drink on those until the batches run out (if they run out).
