NWR: Hutch help!

DH and I are looking to combine storage with the microwave cart, and decided a hutch should be the best bet.  We want something like this:

http://www.target.com/Buffet-with-2-Door-Hutch-Natural/dp/B000KDTO18/

Here is another one we considering:

http://delaware.craigslist.org/fuo/2061448329.html

But we don't have that kind of money to spend.  We don't want to spend over $200.  We need it to fit our micro, which is 24"Longx19"Deepx13"High.  It would need to be no longer than 5 feet (preferably 4 feet), and no deeper than 24".

So, if anyone wants to help me search for a hutch like that, I would love you forever and ever.  We aren't picky if it is used or not.  I have searched, and am starting to get weary-eyed, so I figured I would put it out there to see if anyone wanted to help :)

Could you do a buffet table instead of a hutch? The microwave could go on top and the storage in the bottom. I think they're a lot cheaper than a hutch.

Another idea would be to find an unfinished piece and stain/lacquer it yourself. We did that with our dining room chairs.

Still not a hutch, but the Ikea post made me think...

We have this piece (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60045393) in our front room. It's big, made of real wood (instead of the particle board you find in a lot of Ikea furniture), was painless to put together, and is really pretty in person. We have baskets on the shelves for storage. You could also cover it with a nice tablecloth and put appliances, pots, pans, etc on the shelves.

There's also this little guy (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80035920) that goes along with it if you want more space.

We have something similar we are trying to get rid of. We'd be willing ot just give it away if it can be picked up.

I can take pictures if you would like. It came with our house, we just have NO PLACE to put it.

BP- can you email me pictures?  msbriarrose@gmail.com.  If it's worth it, we would be willing to drive to pick up.  We may have to wait until after Thanksgiving, since this weekend we are out in OH helping figure out DH's grandmother's house (she died in July).  If that's an issue, let me know.

We really want the hutch part and not just the buffet.  We don't have much floor space, and we are trying to combine the bookcase items (not the books, but the displayed items) with the microwave cart.  Going up, rather than out, you might say.

We really like that one on Craigslist I listed, but they are not budging on price.  DH is going to sit down tonight and see if it is doable, that's how much we like it.

It's similar to this, only not green... I'll take some pictures tonight. We unscrewed the top part to break it down and put it in our garage, but I'll position it baack up to take the picture.s After turkey day is fine, we are going to donate it otherwise, because it's stunning, just no room for it.

OMG it is totally stunning.  What color is yours?

I am sure that DH can fix one of the shelves so that the Microwave will fit.  Do you know how wide the unit is?  That's the only other thing- It has to be less that 5 ft wide so it will fit in our dining room.

Thanks so much BP!  You are totally awesome.

I'll measure that all and take pictures. It's a darker wood I'd say.

I second the going to an unfinished furniture place.  There's one just over the line in PA on Concord Pike North-bound.  It's called Marstans, but there's no actual sign that has their name on it.  Instead there's a sign that says 'UNFINISHED FURNITURE.'  Gzilla and I got our TV-stand/entertainment center there.  We definitely saved a few hundred bucks.
Paprika: I like it when you burp in my ear. It really turns me on.

Have you tried lancaster or any of the "country" stores on Rt40 in NJ?  You should find some at those types of places.  Ooooh maybe even the cowtown auction/flea market if you have patience.  Its usually busy this time of year with the holidays coming up.

Just a question... aren't you guys still renting? (or did I miss the house buying part).  If you're planning to buy a home in the next year or two, I would wait to buy/get any big furniture.

Haha that's what I have in my kitchen.  i have NO counter space and that was perfect.  I have wine bottle on the one shelf and GF Grill, crockpot and Wok on the bottom.  WAY easy to put together!  Unlike the wardrobe that ended up being an all nighter

Hil- we are renting still.  That's one of the reasons we are trying to do this- we are combining the microwave cart, storage boxes, and bookcase for display into one item.  That right there will open up tons of room for us (and we need it opened up, it's like furniture sardines in here).  We figure as long as we get a hutch that has a removable top (like BPs), then DH can figure out something to modify it for when we move into a house.

Since we're still renting and I didn't want to buy furniture, I just used a wood printer/office cart to put in our kitchen.  The microwave is on top, and the bottom two shelves I use for storage.  Surprisingly, it doesn't look bad!

That's what we have now, but we need something more.  We are bringing back the china and sterling silverware we inherited, and need a place to put it.  We have items (mostly from the wedding) that we want to display but not on the bookcase, since we are trying to put that into storage.  It's a juggling act, that's for sure.  I can't wait for a house.  We are planning on looking starting in Feb/March.
