Affordable reception halls

I'm trying to find an affordable place to hold a reception in the Grand Rapids area.  Thoughts?

what do you consider affordable? and for how many people?
We found a lot of places in Grand Rapids but found they don't let you do what you want (ie. have a photobooth or pick our own caterer)
We ended up looking just outside of GR and found cheaper locations that were way more flexible.
    (Rockford, Coopersville, etc.)
  • Although I've never been to a wedding there, Brann's has a couple conference centers. I've read great reviews about their catering and services: http://www.brannscatering.com/index.cfm?Action=ViewMainCategory&Category=197&ResetSRow=1
    They are also incredibly affordable.

If you are looking to do your own catering you might want to check out some parks or VFW Halls. Here's a link to the Kent Co. Parks: http://www.accesskent.com/CultureLeisureAndTransit/Parks/
  • Right now, the cheapest place I found to rent was $500 +food, which was $18/person.  I'd like to be able to find a hall to rent so that I can bring in a caterer of my choice, if that were possible.

  • If you are looking outside of GR, there's a few places in Holland that are really good.  I'm getting married 2/23 at the Holland Fish & Game Club.  They allow your own caterer, bartenders, alcohol, decorations, everything.

  • St. Cecilia music society. Right down town and parking is included. Their small hall is just $300, the big hall is $1000 but it can seat 150 or more and you can chose severl vendors for your food. It is SO classy and pretty!! I love that place!

I'd also recommend a lunch wedding. The menu is a lot cheaper and people tends to drink A LOT LESS!!

Also, try Calvin college's prince conference center or Kuyper college. They both are very affordable and nice. Down side-- no alcohol (or maybe it's a good thing for your budget!)

GVSU also have several pretty venues. One I like best is the alumni house, nice ourdoor garden behind it. You get discounts too, if you have connections. But you must use their food cater.
