Escrow.com

Has anyone used this site before? I listed my wedding dress on preownedweddingdress.com and I got an email from a girl in Uruguay interested in buying the dress. I asked for payment via paypal, but she prefers this site because it was suggested as the prefered method of transaction on preowned.com. I didnt notice that till now.

Just wanted to see if anyone has used this site before - I googled them and they seem legit. The only part that bothered me was that the buyer has 3 days to inspect the dress and decide if they want it or not. If she decides she doesn't then I don't get paid - which is fine except that I would be out of the money I paid for shipping (around $120 with USPS)

Re: Escrow.com

  • Escrow.com is a legitimate escrow company, but as you point out may not be ideal for your situation.

There is another escrow company that specialises in weddings as one of its core sectors (amongst others), and that is www.Transpact.com.
Transpact.com allows you to dictate the conditions governing your payment (so you can allow or disallow the option of an inspection period, and tailor the transaction to your needs).
Even better, Transpact.com is low cost and secure.
Transpact.com is authorised and regulated by the UK Governments’ FSA agency.

  • I wouldn't do it just becaues she doesn't have to pay until she already has the dress. I didn't use anything other than paypal when I sold my wedding items, and I didn't ship until I had the money.

  • Escrow.com is a very good service to use if you want to make sure that both parties are protected.  When you set up a trasnaction, you will stipulate who will pay the Escrow fee (it can be buyer, seller or split), how long of an inspection period you will allow the buyer, and you can even include a shipping cost if you want the buyer to cover your shipping expense.  You do not send the buyer your dress until Escrow.com confirms that they have received and approved the buyer's funds.  It is true that once they receive the dress they will be given an inspeciton period to look at the dress, but if they do reject the dress, they must ship it back to you at their expense.  Escrow.com does not refund the buyer until you confirm that you have received the dress back and that you accept it (you are also given an inspection period to make sure it was not ruined or altered).  If the buyer accepts the dress or does not retunr it to you within 10 days of rejecting it, they release the funds to you.  They can pay you by check, direct deposit, or wire transfer.
Escrow.com is the safest way to sell merchandise online to someone you don't know and are not located near.
  • The fact that two randoms made accounts to defend this site makes it seem even more shady to me honestly.

  • I just want to say- I sold my wedding belt using escrow. I was able to pick who paid for the shipping, both initial and return shipping. It went like this: I first set up the transaction, then the buyer was able to make the payment. Escrow confirmed that the payment was good and held the payment for me. I then shipped the belt, with a tracking number and 3 days for the buyer to inspect. The buyer was then able to accept the purchase and I was sent a check for my belt. It actually was really smooth.

A con would be the price of escrow (it does cost a bit more than just paypal), but I made my buyer pay for that as well as the shipping.

I agree that the random posts about it are shady- but wanted you to know it actually is ok to use and I really liked it.

    <div>Thanks for the info! </div><div>
</div><div>It does seem like a legit site - I was just concerned about the shipping costs since this is a wedding dress and I would be shipping it internationally. If the buyer decides she doesnt like the dress, I would be out of the money I paid to ship it. That was my only concern before the random posters showed up.</div>
