    Normally the bride should 'butt out', but nowadays almost anything seems to go! Perhaps just make a casual mention to your FMIL that you would really like to have 'A', 'B', and 'C' at your shower, and they've been asking about when it is.... heck, my daughter actually wrote out a list for us! And just have your bm CALL your FMIL until she actually talks to her -don't leave a voicemail!

    You're right, you should keep out of it.  It doesn't look like she's going to do it.  If your friends are asking you about it, you can say "FMIL offered to host, but I'm not sure whether she is, so it doesn't really look like I'm going to have a shower."  That would prompt someone so inclined to offer to host.

    I was kind of in the dark about where to go and when to arrive. I just emailed FMIL and told her I didn't want to be late and wanted to make sure I had the right time and date.
