Ceremony/Reception Venue Serious Budget Help!

hi all -

I'm trying to plan our 2013 wedding, and we're running into major questions about our budget and what we can/can't afford. The issue mostly is the amount of people we feel that we need to invite (150... fiance has quite a large family) and the overall cost of the area. We fell in love with the Carriage House at Rockwood Park, but even that is leaving us with a bit of sticker shock after the price quote, and I feel like they are pretty reasonably priced.

So, my question is if it's even really possible to have a wedding for 150 people without costing more than 100/person, including the ceremony, venue rental, and food? We've been talking about looking into halls - anyone have any advice? I would probably want to do a low-key type of tent wedding before we went the firehall route, but I'm not even sure where to start to look for locations for that. (We are trying to stay around Chester/Delaware county areas, but are willing to look pretty much anywhere within an hour or so)

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! I think the first thing we need to do is cut down the list...but I'm clueless as to where to go from there! Thanks in advance :)

    Try these:

If I think of any more I will come back. But try looking for an all inclusive venue. A la carte can get expensive.

    Tents can get super expensive.

Another thing that you need to think about... EVERYWHERE you look at... ask what additional fees they have, and ask if their price per person includes tax & gratuities, because a lot of places don't.  My venue was around $65pp, but once you add in tax & gratuity, it was closer to $80pp.

I agree w jelybean in the all-inclusive venues.  Because places where you have to bring in a caterer can rack up hidden costs.  My venue was an all-inclusive, a hotel.  But it's also in New Castle, Delaware.

Try The Brossman Center in NW Philly. You can bring in your own caterer. There's a lovely chapel & a hall where you can have your reception.

Rita, the coordinator, is great to work with. It's just a little out of my price point, though. My goal was to not pay a site fee on top of catering and alcohol.

thank you all! we are trying to plan so far in advance, but i'm already feeling a bit overwhelmed, oy. you all are so helpful :)

It's okay to take a break if you feel overwhelmed.  I understand the want to get it all done and out of the way... but sometimes you need a wedding break.  There were a few times I was so overwhelmed, that I just took a time out for 3 days where I didn't do anything wedding-related whatsoever.

i didnt tour any of the other places listed... we loved this one! absolutly beautiful! very resonably priced too... all inclusive and willing to negotiate! " if you dont want this and wanna add this... you got it" Joe farrell was the person we talked to there! there is a beautiful patio  with a gazebo and its already covered, no tent rental required! i really think you should check it out! we did not choose this venue only because our wedding is going to be on a friday and its over an hour away from us and traffic on the blue route on a friday is Hell and we were afraid alot of people would be get stuck in traffic! but if your doing a saturday night i say go for it!

It is 71pp (or more, depending on your food choices).  Including tax & gratuity, cake, premium open bar, linens, etc!

It's BEAUTIFUL!  And if you want you can also have your ceremony there!  I fell in love with it and can't wait to have my wedding there!

Not to mention, Sandra, the event planner has been nothing less than amazing and prompt!

I recommend Lia's (someone above posted the link.)  While they are technically associated with firehalls, they sure don't look like any firehall I ever saw before!  They have a couple of different halls.
