What do bridesmaids hold...

Re: What do bridesmaids hold...

  • fans, purses, bead/crystal bouquets, candles, lanterns, Bibles, nothing

  • fans, parasols, candles, clutch purses, Bibles, books (love poems, sonnets?), single stems of flowers, Rosary beads in a Catholic ceremony, muffs for a winter wedding, lanterns, hymnals, baskets
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Oh, and maybe parasols for an outdoor wedding in spring/summer. Just be sure they don't block the guests' view.

  • These are all great ideas.  I've also seen bridesmaids hold green reeds at a wedding once.
  • Reeds are a nice idea. Or maybe cattails or wheat bouquets.

  • They don't have to hold anything, but it can be awkard for them to know what to do with their hands while walking, and during the ceremony. Do they keep their hands by their sides, clasp them together, do "jazz hands", twiddle their thumbs, or stand with their hands on their hips? Lol. A fan, a ribbon bouquet, petal cones, a bible or prayer book, a rosary, a candle or lantern, or the suggestion of the reeds sounds kind of cool. If you're not totally against flowers/plants, you could use a single rose (or other flower), a nosegay of fresh or dried herbs, a small pomander bouquet, or just some gathered greenery
  • I went to a wedding where the bridesmaids carried small glass fish bowls wrapped in ivy with a lit candle inside. It was different, but very pretty.
