Because it's slow: Vote on my living room

Jennifer and a few others have already seen this in an email, but just to AW/Share/Entertain:DH and I are having a "debate" over the living room. He's taken down the catty corner wall to stick in a real wood burning stove instead of thedecorative one. We're trying to decide what stone goes up on the wall. Here's what it used to look like: http://new2pgh.googlepages.com/P1010610.JPG/P1010610-large.JPG Here's option #1. The slate would go all the way up the wall, like photo 2 http://www.dellafloors.com/images/photos-3/slate-fireplace.JPG http://a1tilecontractors.com/images/fireplace_install_slate.JPGThe slate I picked out is called "Gold Slate" and looks something like this http://www.buystonenow.com/images/image_prod/China%20Gold%20JNA01.jpg Option #2 - DH's favorite. White marble tiles all the way up the wall. I think it's too froo-froo for our casual little ranch. DH tends to decorate like an old woman. http://i.ehow.com/images/GlobalPhoto/Articles/4835232/marblefireplace-main_Full.\ jpg So please feel free to vote  - option 1 or option 2 :)

Definitely the slate.  Much more modern and casual.  I think it'd be better for resale too, many people just aren't into marble.

    I vote #1.  #2 is too plain. I agree with you. :)

I think the marble would look good if you lived in a bright little ranch with huge windows overlooking a beach in CA.  In other words, I'd go with option 1 and the slate as well.

I actually do like #2, but agree that it may not fit with your style of home. GL!

I like option #1 and your slate choice.  The other is nice in the right home, but I don't think it would work for you, base on the photo you shared. BTW: DH tends to decorate like an old woman.HAHAHAHAHAHA

I agree with PPs...Option #1 is warmer to me, and Option #2 reminds me of Don Johnson & Miami Vice...the stark 80s. But I could see it working in a California beach house, as morgan said.

I am late to this, but agree with the majority on this one! Option 1 is my fave by far. I agree...option 2 is TOTALLY Miami Vice! (Excellent reference d78!)
