What kind of wedding

Hello fellow October brides...
I'm curious as to what kind of wedding you all are having and what are some of the traditions you will be doing...
We are having a Catholic/Portuguese wedding, we will have the Seafood buffet at midnight for sure :-) along with lots of sweet stuff!
Looking forward to hearing the different types of weddings from all of you.

  • We will be doing a catolic church wedding reception to follow
  • We want a simple country type wedding with a touch of class haha.  Either of us are religious, but we are keeping up with some traditions like not seeing each other before the wedding.

We are having a traditional Orthodox ceremony, complete with crowns and our right hands being tied together. FI is Orthodox I am not so this kind of wedding is new to me.

ETA- If you have seen "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" that is pretty much what our wedding is going to be like.

  • semi non traditional with a nice touch of "us"   we are trying to make it as non-traditional and unique as we can without hearing any sh*t from my mom lol

after a year she has finally stopped lecturing me about not getting married in a church, now all i get is an eye roll lol

  • We are doing a Fall rustic wedding with hints of Halloween :)  We are getting married at a farm...ceremony by a cute little pond (or in a nearby barn if it rains) and reception at another nearby farm that is renovated and has heat/ac.  There will be lots of leaves, haybales, cornstalks, pumpkins, fall colors, etc.  Plan on having a Trick or Treat Halloween candy buffet and another added Halloween feature that my FI thinks people will find tasteless for a wedding, but if people really know me I think they will see it and think...yep..that's her...I get it :) Not going to be too many people, have about 140 on the guest list now but I need to revist that. I just LOVE Fall and Halloween sooo much :)  Looking forward to putting this all together!

We're looking pretty traditional, actually-- getting married in a Catholic church, reception in a hotel ballroom. We're definitely going more traditional than I expected, but I know we'll throw in a few things that are unique to us. But there's no question we've got some pretty classic and traditional elements planned!

  • coauwilou- haha the pic is from our local boards siggy challenge, we had only been dating for a month when this was taken!

mana- you should be glad you dont have hoffer, he pretty much requires you guys see each other before so he can get all the pictures.  we has already planned to see each other before due to limited time between the ceremony & reception  (same place) but still.

  • Jackie - really?  My friend used him (that's where my obsession started) Summer '09 and they didn't see each other before.  I'm actually realizing 8 hours might be too much... (getting ready starts a 3-340, receptions ends at 10). I might be emailing my photog soon and see if we can cut 1-2 hours for rights to the engagement pics.

we're having an outdoor non-religious ceremony by a lake at our reception venue with some semi traditional features (father-daughter dance, etc. even though i don't want to dance haha). we're also gonna have some stuff that really shows our personalities though, like a zombie cake topper :)

  • Coua - haha no problem!  I'm sure once we get going on this board we can have a siggy challenge, like WR: shoes, flowers, venues, etc etc.  Our local board has a lot of married ladies on there so it's usually not really wedding related.  So it's like first pic together, warm weather, vacation, St patty's day etc.  It's fun to see all the pics!

Unfornately my first pic with FI was after being really sick... thus why I'm so pale haha.

  • I want to start of by saying I FREAKIN LOVE ZOMBIES.... My BM's and I are wearing zombie chokers :) there will be other hints of zombies in my wedding. Ok moving on...

I am having an 1800s gothic victorian wedding with a poetic feel. We are having an outdoors wedding ceremony and we will be handfasting.
  • Miz - what is handfasting?

  • It is a pagan/celtic ceremony of which the elements of life bind the two of you through symbolic knots. We are making a binding promise of love to each other instead of a "god" making that bond.

  • Interesting... never seen that but it sounds cute.

<div>Seriously, Miz, the more I hear about your wedding (not that I've stalked your planning blog or anything... ok, yes I have), the more excited I am to see how it all plays out!</div><div>

  • My FI is jewish and I am not so we will be mixing some traditions. We will do the glass breaking and a Huppah. We are getting married in a 1930's art deco style train station thats now a museum. The reception will be there too. Its traditional wiht a spin...every time I think about a traditional part of the wedding like favors, save the dates, escort cards I find myself finding an alternative thats more interesting! This could get me into trouble lol!
    for siggy
  • I'm adding alot of my own touches for our wedding, I'm doing alot myself which according to my family it's not traditional, they expect me to pay for everything, but since we're on a budget, I'm doing it myself!

  • We are getting married at a church, but the Pastor is letting us make the ceremony our own, which I love. We will be doing a wine box ceremony..so excited for this!  One of the reasons we are getting married at the church ( I belong too, but don't go to that much) is because there is a flagpole/flag outside that was put in, in memory of my grandpa that passed. It may sound silly but it makes me feel like he will be there more. We were very close.
I believe that we are doing things more non-traditional than traditional. It's going to be very "us" Smile

  • Blingbride: I think that will be a very special moment for you having the flag there. That adds a more personal touch to your wedding, which I think is very sweet.

  • Cou - haha I would not have a halloween pic to join in that one.
Year 1 - I had the flu and I think my then BF had 24 hr duty
Year 2 - I was in an accident the 29th, the other car ran a red light.  I was recovering all weekend

I have no idea what this year will bring!

Blingbride - what is a wine box ceremony?
