Alternative to bouquets?

My fiance and I are cutting costs and obviously a big expense can be flowers. We are going with a vintage theme, so hardcover books and single roses for the centerpieces. For the readings at the ceremony, we are doing passages from literature and whatnot. So, instead of bouquets, we were thinking having each bridesmaid (there are 3) carry a nice, vintage looking hardcover book with the passage to be read marked by a rose or a silk ribbon. Then when the reader comes up, the BM can open the book and hand it to them. Does this sound ridiculous? (My fiance and I are a little non-traditional!)

  • I think it's a nice idea.

  • I think it sounds like a lovely idea.
  • I like the idea a lot.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Sounds like an excellent idea!  Have you had luck finding nice-looking books?
  • It really sounds quite beautiful. I think it's a wonderful idea.
  • well, we figured we need about 50 books in all. so we are hitting up garage sales and half-price books on weekends. each book on the tables will be marked with a favorite passage as well, and then guests can take home a book at the end of the night. if any are left we will probably donate them. aside from being different, it also gives us a project we can work on together!
