tipping

I found a website on who to tip on your wedding day and it says that for hair/make-up, if they come to you you don't need to tip, but if you go to the salon, you should tip. The reason being that if they come to you they are not paying salon fees. Is this accurate? Also, who else do you need to tip? My DJ and photog are both owners of the company. I know we'll need to tip the limo driver. TIA~

there's a few knot.com tipping guides that i used. (search for tipping) might want to check that out. i never heard that thing about not tipping if they come to you. doesn't make sense to me because if they could still be affiliated with a salon/spa/whatever even if they are coming to you. like i'm getting my hair done by up do's for i do, even though one of the girls is coming to me, i know she's not getting all the money.

The "rule of thumb" is to tip anyone that isn't the owner of the company.  I can say that I tipped everyone that I felt went above and beyond for me.  Including owners.  I only didn't tip the florist or the cake baker because I never saw them.

Thanks for the info! I just did a search on theknot and found a few articles. But I had my make-up and hair trials already and I didn't tip for the trial. It seems like some people do. What's your opinion?

IMO you are hiring them for your wedding.  The trial is included in that service.  So I think just tipping them after they have finished what you contracted them for is totally fine.

I tipped for those that went over and beyond regardless of if they owned their own company. Technically you aren't required by etiquette to tip those that own, but I loved my photography and DJ and although they both owned their own company we tipped both. We didn't tip of flowers, probably because we paid so far in advance, and then I never dealt with my contact again on the wedding day. We also tipped our limo and the coordinator at the reception venue. I should have tipped my makeup artist because she did an incredible job, but I was so frustrated with my hair stylist being so late that I forgot that it wasn't the makeup person's fault, even though they came together.

It's whatever you feel comfortable with. We tipped 10%.
