Louisiana-New Orleans

anyone else think the 2nd line permit process is sketchy??

I'm in the process of getting our 2nd line permit, and the NOLA website has a guys name...from which I then googled and found his aol.com email address on a wedding info site. I emailed him and then he asked me to call his cell, and he said he would fill it out for me.

I know NOLA doesn't have the most efficient government in the world, but is it that hard to put an application online?!

He also said it would cost $300 for the escorts for 75 people from 7:30 - 8:00 PM; does that sound high? I thought it was a little less for escorts...

Anyone's experience would be much appreciated!

Don Powers?  I was quoted the same.  The process is a bit weird, but it is definitely legit.

yes i do think that's high and then i contacted Royal Carriages and that price is also $300 for one way! We're getting married at Latrobes and will be staying in the Monteleone our wedding night and I'd rather walk than pay $300 for a 2 block carriage ride.

Oh that's who we're using! $300 is just their minimum package, I'm pretty sure. We're just going around the block, and that's how much it is....

It's about right to me - $300 is for the officers' overtime pay, since you're required to have them there. Also, you're probably paying for their time to and from the wedding, not just the 30 mins.

I was quoted $350.25. The 50.25 is the cost of the permit and the 300 is for the officers. It does seem sketchy but it all seems legit from what everyone else says. :)

I'm a wedding planner and I coordinate a LOT of second lines in the quarter.  Officer Powers is legit.  The $50.25 for the permit should be given to him the night of the event in the form of a check to the City of New Orleans.  The $300 for the escorts is $100 per officer (cash) for 3 officers.  They need three for any group over 50 people. One stays at the head of the parade, one at the back, and they swap back and forth on their motorcycles as they block of streets you need to cross that allow cars.  Its like choreography-- they have it down so well.  No need to worry.  These guys are good and the prices are standard.  Don Powers is really great to work wth as well.
