Plus Sized woes

Well here ia am with just over a month to go.. Everything is reserved, decorations are here, all wedding party clothing are taken care of. All the roles are implemented and we have the rings picked out. I have my mom's salmony rose colored dress, but well I'm plus size, I need probably a 22 dress. I tried her's on and cannot get in it. I look and look at the skinny brides and cry and cry. I will probably have to get this dress altered up at least 3 sizes. I would probably try and order another dress or get one from the bridal shop in town but when I look at them I cry. My sister and daughter are standing up with me, she is 20 yr. old and a size 1 and my daughter is 17 and a size 3, then there is me. my mom is about my size now but was smaller when she wore the dress. probably like an 18. It's so sad, what I think of when I see myself standing there with my sister and daughter. It makes me wanna cry more. so I'm not sure about a look for my wedding being plus-sized. I like to think that I am comfortable with myself and I am, usually but now I'm ready to elope seriously. What can I do? I just am not sure what to do with the dress. and what kind of wedding dress looks good on a plus sized bride? Please help me. Thanks Shelley

    Have you tried David's? I know it's the WalMart of bridal salons, but they carry pretty much all sizes and you can walk out with a dress that day.

    Go to Davids Bridal website. They have plus sized brides on there adn they look marvelous. Check out the bio that mscali posted too. Also, your FI loves you right now, the way you are. That should mean more to you than worrying about the number on your dress tag. He asked you to marry him, at your size right now. So what is your worry?

    Ditto everyone's advice.  I'm about the same size as you and my husband loves me just the way I am.  Keep in mind that vintage dress sizes are smaller.  My mom wore a size 13 in high school the 70s, but that was more like a size 9 today.  I would try on some spanx with the dress and then take it to a tailor and see what they can do, they may be able to let it out enough that it would fix with proper foundation garments.  Maybe adding a corset back could help fix some issues?  I gained weight between ordering my dress and my fittings.  My dress did NOT fit.  They were able to put in a larger corset back (which it had originally, they just put in a new panel) and let it out a little and it fit fine with spanx.  If not, Igigi.com has some lovely wedding dresses in plus sizes.  Sadly, Lane Bryant discontinued their bridal line (which had gorgeous dresses, in my opinion)- but you can still get some off Ebay!  Maybe you could still wear your mom's veil or incorporate pieces of her dress, like the lace, into your dress or purse or RB pillow.  When I shop for dresses, I usually get something with a v-neck, empire waist, a-line skirt, and lots of shirring around the waist (because my stomach is my trouble area).

    Ditto everyone else's advice.  If you don't mind a little bit of a drive- Universe Bride in W. Lafayette Ohio has a huuuuuuuuuge selection of dresses at a good price.  I know a lot of people in every size, shape, and style that have gone there- 4 driving from Lancaster and 3 from Columbus.  If you want more info let me know.

    What's wrong with being plus sized? You should love yourself no matter what size you are. There are a crapton of options for people like us. Hell, you could even have a dress made if you want. Well.. maybe not with only a month left. Try David's Bridal, try some boutique shops that cater to big women, try some supercenter formal wear type stores. They don't expect every woman to be a size 2.

    http://kateharding.net http://fatshionista.com The dress not fitting is not a problem with your body - it's a problem with the dress. You just need a new dress. Try David's, but also try Lane Bryant online, kiyonna.com, and igigi.com - all of which have bridal boutiques. We can't tell you what dress will look good on you - fat people (yes, I said it, because I am, and I refuse to hide behind socially-acceptable euphemisms) all have different shapes, just like thin ones, and what will look good on me - short, fat, hourglassed-shaped - won't look good on a tall, fat, pear-shaped woman.
