We're desperate for venue help!

My FI and I have been engaged for over six months and STILL don't have a venue picked out. We'd really like to host our reception in a hotel. We have fallen in love with St. John's because it has a hotel attached and the Atrium is a different type of room - it doesn't feel like we've been to a business meeting there. It's really stretching our budget but we can do it by scaling back on a couple of other things. But now it feels like things just keep getting added on. Do you have any suggestions for hotel venues that are a little less expensive than St. John's but don't feel like a meeting/conference room? Or did you consider something like St. John's and then go a different direction? And if so, which direction did you go? We're hoping to host between 120 and 135 people and we've looked at Greektown and the Dearborn Inn. Thanks! Thanks!

I love St. Johns, we considered it as well but it was a little over our budget and we didn't want to stretch. Check out Dearborn Hills Golf Club. They are very affordable and would fit your guest count perfectly. They have a really nice patio area outside as well. We were going to use them (also) but our guest count is too large. I see your point about the hotel aspect, but there are a ton of places that are located in close proximity to hotels that may be more affordable to you. Also, many hotels will work with nearby venues to offer shuttles to guests that are staying there...if you're worried about transportation and convenience for your guests.

Fox Hills is a nice place too, but it's not connected to a hotel. I know the Hilton Garden Inn on Sheldon and M-14 offer a free shuttle service to and from Fox Hills if 10 rooms are booked. That is always an option.

I think that a Knottie recently had their reception at the Troy Ramada (used to be a Hilton) and they were really happy with it...

We had our reception at the Marriott at Centerpoint. They were great to work with and there was no addons. They have a package and that was it. Well ok, you can add stuff like a martini bar or late night snacks etc, but they have a base package price that includes pretty much everything.Karen was great to work with.

I worked at St. John's for over 3 years so I also love it (it's actually where I met my fiance).  It is very nice, but really expensive.  I have friends that had their reception last year at the Embassy Suites in Livonia (not too far from St. Johns) and I thought it was really nice.  The food was amazing (and I'm hard to impress) and the hotel was very nice as well.  I also like Dearborn Hills.  I knew the manager there and they go out of their way to be accomodating.  I have coordinated and attended events at Dearborn Inn, which is nice, but expensive too.  Embassy Suites and Dearborn Hills are much more reasonable. Good luck!

This may be completely too far, but we had ours at the Best Western Concorde Inn. They did an amazing job all around and very reasonably priced. We had our ceremony & reception there. If you want to see pics, email me at irishgirl_0574 at sbcglobal.netGL!

We got married at St. John's and had our reception in the Galilee Ballroom. They also have the Judea. They are MUCH more affordable than the Atrium and all of our guests were very impressed with the beauty of the chapel and the ballroom. The Regal Ballrooms are much better if you're on a budget and would be perfect for the amount you are expecting. We had 126 ppl and it was perfect. I have some non-pro pics in my Married Bio that show how pretty the room can look once it's all decorated!

My friend just had her wedding at The Westin, metro airport. And it was awesome, unsure of the price, but there were a lot of things included for no charge like tealights and a wedding planner square tables were a cool touch, with black tableclothes, and other things I can't think of right now.She was very happy.

I had mine at Stone Creek Banquet hall in Flat Rock and it's not attached to a hotel but there is one across the parking lot. Take a look at my review. It was fabulous

cinday beat me to it, but I second her post.  We initially loved the atrium at St. Johns too, but it was WAY out of our price range.  Our reception will be in the Galilee ballroom...less cost but we still get to be at the venue we fell in love with.   good luck!

Try the Troy Marriott. They have a fantastic room that has different levels. It's really cool.

The mansion at pine knob is beautiful and has a hotel close that does the free shuttle as well.

If you're looking for considering something on the East side (a pp listed the Concorde Inn in Clinton Township) you might also want to check out the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester. My BIL/SIL got married there, and it was just beautiful. I think the price was about $80pp but they sacrificed a large guestlist because it was just so gorgeous. They said a large group also ended up staying that night so they had a great time.

We loved St. John's but it was over the price range, my cousin got married at the Southfield Town Center - it is gorgeous!  However it too was way over the price range.  We couldn't get into a hotel ballroom for our price range, although that is also what I wanted. We are getting married at Lafayette Grande in Pontiac, I fell in love with the place.  We hired a shuttle to take people back and forth from the hotel to reception, the wedding is in 10 days so I will let you know how that works out after the fact :)
