Birth Control Question

I've been taking Ortho-Tri-Cylcen for 4 months now.  Well, I was looking at the calendar and figured when I'd get my period.  Starting on my wedding day!  So, I decided to take a pack starting this month back-to-back so that next month I would do the same as well and not have my period.  The problem is, I've been on my period for 13 days now!!  This is not only uncomfortable, but the complete opposite of what is suppose to happen.  Has this happened to anyone else??

Oh!  I had the same thing!  I actually talked to my doctor about it and he played with the packs.  I am on the same kind too.  You know how they have the white, light blue, dark blue, and green pills?  Well, they had me take them like normal, but instead of going from dark blue to green, they had me open another pack, start at the dark blue, then go to the green.  So you are taking 2 weeks worth of dark blue.  then it extends it a week.  I did it twice, so that I have it 2 weeks later.

The doctor also told me it was bad to skip like you did.

yeah that happens... especially when you havn't been on a certain pill for a long period of time. You are fine... I used to "skip" my period all the time, and if I ever tried to do it after being on a new type of pill, I used to have spotting for awhile like you. It sucks, but at least you won't have it on your wedding day! I went off the pill about a year ago, and that is my biggest fear, because I have been on the pill so long, I always would skip my period for certain things... now I won't have a choice. :( keeping my fingers crossed I will be good to go.

Yes! And it really does suck. Although it's never happened while I've tried to skip it. Have you skipped it ever before? There was a month that I had my period for almost 3 weeks, but it was very light and that was super annoying. I called my doc and they said it was normal to be spotting. But if you've had a period for 13 days and it hasn't let up, I would call your doc. Especially since you want this issue cleared up before your wedding!

Rebecca- So it would just push your period back a week instead of just skipping it right?  Even that would work better than getting it on my wedding day!!  Guys have it so easy!

It's never happened to me, but when I started on it I asked my doctor about stacking to skip a period, and she said to do exactly what rebecca explained.  (There is also another way, but it's a little tricky and I can't remember it all exactly...I have it written down somewhere if you want it though...but you take a certain number of each color/hormone level, which shortens the time til the placebo pills...ie. getting your period out of the way BEFORE whatever event you have planned.)  Basically, with OTC you can push it back/forward...but you can't "skip" it.  It has to do with the differing hormone levels of each set of pills.  When you jump from the last week to the first your body can't figure it out...thus, period.  HTH!

OMG ! I totally feel you ! I just started on a new pill after not taking it for a few years and resulted in a 2 month period. I called the doctor and she said that it can last up to 3 months. I decided to stop taking it and it fixed it, but the doctor said that it is how you body matabolizes the hormones. nothing it garanteed . How annoying!!!! Sorry to hear you were having the trouble also

Yeah I did that last month and had a period/spotting for like 2 1/2 weeks and then when it was time to have my normal period it was really bad.  So annoying.  when you take OTC, it has varying levels of hormones, which is why it is more difficult to try and skip your period. Everything i've heard is that it is perfectly safe to try and skip it.

I'm not on OTC, I'm taking Yasmin. I did the math and yes, I would have had my period on my wedding day. I talked to my Dr., a woman, who said that I should start a new pack instead of taking the placebos and that I wouldn't get my period. It totally worked for me, no problem. I had no period. I think that everyone is different though and every pill is different. I hope you work it out! It's a good thing you "tested" it now! :)

I was in this situation too, I am on Yaz though.  I skipped earlier in the year because I was told that there might be a lot of spotting.  Good thing I did because I pretty much had a period for the whole month.  I was really excited I did it early and not during wedding time, it would have defeated the purpose!
