When? Registry?

hi Ladies,When am I supposed to register? Our wedding is next May. My shower is in April. We are sending out save the dates next month b/c our wedding is Memorial Day weekend and most of our guess are coming in from out of town (mainly England and Jamaica). So when should we register?TIA!

I think we did it about 6 months before. We started it in the store then I tweaked it online as I thought of stuff we needed.

According to the Knot checklist sometime between now and Nov. 1. (I'm a May 1 bride). I have already been asked if we are registered yet by multiple people so I plan to do that sometime in the next month or so. Before things get too crazy with people Christmas shopping in November.

My advice is to not register too early.  We did right after we got engaged (in May) and our shower is in September.  Right now, I'm battling items being clearanced out before people know about the registry!! :(

I think we registered 2-3 months before our shower. You want to wait as late as possible because items get discontinued all the time.

We registered 1-2 months before the shower and everyday I check my macy's registry to see if yet another item is clearanced out or discontinued! I bought our duvet cover myself off ebay for fear no one would be able to find it to get it. If you are registering for basic items at Bed, Bath and Beyond which they always have in stock you should be fine. But for bedding, or seasonal stuff I would say wait until it is closer to your shower.

Wow, so many mixed opinions. i'm so confused! LOLBut totally appreciate the help. Seems like a month or two is way too short of time but registering by Nov is waayyy too far in advance. I gotta give this some more thought....

We must not have registered for anything exciting b/c none of our stuff was discontinued or clearanced.

We did 6 months before, which was 3 months before my first shower. After you initially register, you update it and add/take things off.

We registered 2 months before our first shower; we didn't want things to be discontinued off our registry if we did it too far in advance!

We registered June 1st (in store event where they gave stuff away, etc) and our shower is August 16th for our Oct 16th wedding. I've already had my fine silverware and a few bakeware items discountined, along with an appliance that was clearanced and then they couldn't find a record of it in store. It was a nightmare.

HAHA! We must have been slackers, we didn't register until a couple of weeks before our shower! I didn't see the point and we didn't have to deal with any discontinued items. One piece of advice is to start making a wish list right now. Write down things that pop into your head as you go along. We had complied a good sized list before we even went to register, it was so helpful b/c we knew what we needed.
