Venues I Am Going To See

I'm coming up to NY in July to check out these venues.  I was wondering if anybody here has gone to see any of these places and what they thought.

Dutchess Manor
 Honor's Haven
 The Garrison
Bear Mountain
Chalet On The Hudson
Falkirk (old Inn at Central Valley)

Thanks for any input!  You guys have been a great help!

The Garrison is nice, it was too expensive for us. I thought Dutchess Manor was nice, but we got a lot more for our money at Patriot Hills. Bear Mountain was recently redone I think? It was super dark and dated before, but hopefully it looks gorgeous when it's done. Falkirk is owned by the same company as Patriot Hills, so if it is anything like Patriot Hills it will be wonderful. And while you're at it, since you'll be at Bear Mountain anyway, go visit Patriot Hills!

I didn't care for the view from patriot hills, but everything else about it was nice. I loved Dutchess Manor but we decided to go for a more mansion feel in the end that had a nice view. Garrison was okay, but they were a little difficult to work with when we were trying to schedule a tasting. They would only do one if we came at a certain time. We felt like we were spending money and they should try to accommodate us. It was like they just expected the business without even trying. We ended up not even seeing it. Chalet has a nice view but IMO the outside wasn't anything special. We were actually looking between that and the Eagles Nest because both had an amazing view, but the outside didn't remind us of anything like a wedding. Nothing against you and please don't take anything by this because I'm sure if you saw the pictures you obviously love it. The view is really nice so if you are into the view it's great. HOWEVER, I think the view at Eagles Nest was better. You certainly have a lot of venues on your list. Good luck!!! I'm sure wherever you pick it will be great.

I don't believe that Falkirk is the same caterer as Patriot Hills anymore but I have heard that they redid a lot at Falkirk and it looks really nice.  I would suggest checking out Patriot Hills.  We had our wedding there and loved it.  I heard they updated Bear Mountain too so it should be nice.  Be aware that depending on when your wedding is, there may be other things going on outside-they have high school cross country meets on Saturdays in the fall plus they have a big Oktoberfest for the month of October.

We considered Dutchess Manor but our problem with them was the availability of dates...they either had the anniversary of my dad's death or November and we wanted October.  I did feel like if we booked it, they would have done lots to accomodate and take care of us.

We looked at the Garrison...I thought the view was gorgeous but to me, it had a teeny ceremony space (we had the ceremony at the venue) and the dance floor was the smallest of every place I saw.  I also thought it was on the expensive side and I konw another venue that is the same price and you got alot more.

I also thought the lady we dealt with was a little snobby and not accomodating at all with my questions.  Plus, she kept calling me by my last name, thinking it was my first name.  That really annoyed me.

dutchess manor is nice... bear mountain i did not care for at all and i agree with the garrison comments.  very stuck up and snobby.  Try colonial terrace (about 10 min. from bear mtn.) we got married there and it was awesome.  it is an old victorian mansion with GREAT pricing.

Bear Mountain was updated recently and although I haven't seen it I'm pretty sure it looks beautiful.

The Garrison - I was going to have my reception here but I cut my guest list and am now holding it at their sister property The Highlands Country Club. They were nothing but gracious and nice to me and my fiance the times we went to eat there and see the space. Yes, it is more expensive but the food is top notch and gourmet. My fiance is a chef and food was of the utmost importance to him which is why we picked the garrison in the first place. It's not the typical catering hall food . I absolutely loved it and the space is beautiful. I definetly think you should consider this place :)

I am having the same problem as far as tastings go with the Garrison.  I live in Florida and will be in NY for about a week and they will not accommodate me.  They said I should come eat in their restaurant during the weekend.  Problem is I want to try their wedding food and I don't think they serve any of that on their regular menu,  They are expensive and you would think they would be more flexible with someone from out of state.  Plus, the restaurant is pretty expensive and I don't feel like spending $80-$100 on a tasting.  They've gotten good reviews on their food but I would really like to be sure before I book my wedding there.

I am getting married at the Garrison, so of course I'd recommend there :)  I didn't see any of the other venues on your list, but I have to agree with the other posters who said their food is top notch.  My understanding is that they have an appetizer tasting a few times a year, and, as for entrees, you can eat in thee restaurant.  I did this after the apps tasting in April, and the food was excellent.  I know it won't be the same as the wedding food, but I have faith that it will be very good.

I also love the view and how elegant and simple the space is.  That is what sold me on the venue.  That, and the price - every place we liked in NJ was much more expensive.

I also understand some of PPs comments about them "not needing" the business, although I wouldn't put it that way - everyone there has been terribly kind and really easy to work with, but they book up rather quickly, so I don't see them bending over backwards to get people in.  I booked one of two open 2010 Saturdays in Sept 2009.  But, like I said, I have had nothing but a great experience so far.

We looked at the Inn at Central Valley before going with Patriot Hills.  The only thing I didn't like about the Inn was that they did not offer table side ordering.  The real reason we couldn't go with it is b/c FI's late brother was married there, and his parents thought it might upset them and his widow that day (Fi didn't tell me that this is where his brother was married before we looked at it.... boys and their wedding IQ!).  That's the last thing we would have wanted, but it is a beautiful venue and the staff was professional and kind

I attended a wedding last summer at the Dutchess Manor.  Ceremony and reception were beautiful, but I did not like my food.  (I am a vegetarian and they brought me steamed crudites leftover from the cocktail oil- no sauce or seasoning. Grrr.)  Also, the cocktail hour was in 2 rooms, which could be a positive or a negative depending on how you feel.

Dutchess Manor - my sister had her wedding here. I looked at it though. And the renovations are beautiful!

Honor's Haven - never heard of

The Garrison - beautiful. Way too expensive for our budget.

    Bear Mountain - never been

Chalet On The Hudson -  incredible views, beautiful inside, great food! They made our top 7 list! I wasn't crazy about the location of the dance floor - but figured I would get lighting. The outside isn't glamorous - but for a night reception it won't matter. My dad didn't like that the bar is inside the restaurant, which would have been open during our wedding reception because it was to be at night. But if your wedding is during the day - you can have the whole place to yourselves. And they have a beautiful room! Great pricing too!

Falkirk (old Inn at Central Valley) - never been. But I think they are having a bridal show next week. Go and check it out!
