What color should my MOH wear?

My Matron of Honor is looking into dresses and we were discussing the fact that I dont want her to wear the same color as the other girls (malibu). She said that someone told her she is suppose to wear a darker shade because she is married. Is this true?

I've never heard of such a thing.

I'm not a fan of the different-color-dress for the MOH thing, so I can't give much advice.

Malibu (Davids Bridal?)  is already a really bold/bright color...so I wouldn't like the extra color as I feel it would start to look a bit distracting.

I have never heard this either.

What about instead of a different color she wears a different style dress?  That way she is differentiated like you want but you don't have to worry about trying to find another color that would coordinate.  Either that or she could wear a black dress and add a malibu sash.

  • I've never heard of the darker dress theory either.  I also agree with itz and Maggie, maybe a different style for your MOH or a neutral with a Malibu sash.

  • They are all wearing different styles. My girls are all different shapes and sizes, and I know the same dress is not going to look good on them, so I am giving them the power to pick a style that they feel & look good in. The only requirements I have is that they are the malibu color and short. I do think that having a darker shade dress for her would look really weird, so maybe we could do a shade lighter?

  • If all the girls are wearing short dresses, why not have her in a long dress in the same color?

  • I also haven't heard of the darker/lighter shade dress thing either.

At most of the weddings I've been to, there is no distinction between the MOH and the bridesmaids as to dress.  They are all the same color; or, they all wear different styles.  People know the MOH because she is the last wedding party member down the aisle.

    I think that's a great suggestion! <div>
</div><div>Like others, I've never heard of the darker color "rule." I think a different color may end up throwing off the aesthetics. Perhaps you could distinguish her with an accessory, like a belt or statement hair piece if you don't want to put her in a long dress. </div>

Maybe I didnt word that right...."giving them the power" yeah, that doesnt sound right now. Lol. But yes, I am letting them pick the style they want to wear, as long as its short & malibu.

  • I like the long dress idea, I will have to see how she feels about it. But maybe I can find some sort of accessory for her to wear.

Good idea. Maybe she ultimately wouldn't want to stand our or look different.

Another idea if really want to differentiate her in some way....I have seen some brides do a special bouquet for the MOH with her favorite flower and/or color which I think is really sweet.

  • Hmmm.... I smell an MOH trying to come up with a reason not to wear the color Malibu.....

DB Malibu is sooo not flattering on any adult woman, IMHO.</div>
  • i've never heard of this.. could she possibly not like the color? do you have another color beside Malibu going on? could she get the dress in that color?

perhaps make her dress a different style or add accessories? my BMs are wearing a silvery-grey color with hot pink accessories. my MOH will have a hot pink sash on her dress so that she does stand out a little bit. the other option was for my MOH to get a pink dress with platinum accessories.

  • Its not that she doesnt want to wear it. She wasnt even the one that originally brought up the diff color idea, I did. But this evening we were sending each other pics of dresses we both like. I think she is going to wear a dress that has a few sequins at the top of it. And she will have a diff bouquet than the rest of the girls.

<div>Ditto. I hate that color. I have a very olive skin tone and was asked to wear that color. I looked sick.  I don't mean sick as in gross, I mean sick as in I had a serious illness.  I didn't say anything, because it's what she wanted, but I protested big time in my head. And to my FI.  If she isn't comfortable wearing that color, a black dress with malibu sash would be a great compromise.</div>
