Looking at your lil buddy there, it all depends on how you are able to get him around. ie. My aussie mix (~40 lbs) can't jump. So he can only get on things that are approximately 1.5 feet tall. So, when we take my Fi's truck we have to lift him in. Does your dog jump? Can you lift him in?We currently have an s10 and a stratus. We are looking into getting an SUV (escape, liberty, cherokee). The S10 is easier to transport the dogs because the center consol is higher and the dogs tend to stay in the back seat (with the occasional shove!). With my stratus the dogs think they own the car. With the set up I'm not really able to contain them if they choose to jump in front.

Well I have a VW Jetta. We have a boston terrier and a 70lb lab. They fit in the back seat, but they are also very good when traveling. The lab just lays down and the BT just stands and looks out the window until he eventually lays down. FI has a GMC Yukon. We recently took the dogs to Florida with us in it. It was AWESOME. We took out and folded up all the backseats and had a huge area that we took turns napping back there with the doggies. One thing to think about is interior material. If you have a dog that sheds a lot (like our lab) it is SO much easier to clean out leather interior (like my Jetta) than cloth (like the Yukon). HTH!

I plan to buy American. My puppy is a Golden. She is not full grown, but I am thinking SUV, but I want to explore my options and make it somewhat nice for her too.

I have a Saturn Vue (which I LOVE LOVE by the way, it is so cute and has so much space!) and Ruca (husky Shepard mix, probably about the same size as your little one when she grows,)  has no problem hopping into it. She was a little apprehensive at first but now she just jumps right in. Plus I think she likes being so high off the ground :)

I have two golden retrievers (one I think is from the same breeder as yours, but she's almost 9). I got a jeep liberty a few month ago and it's SO much easier to have them in there rather than my sebring I used to have. It's still cloth but we got a pet seat cover that velcros on the seat so that helps a ton.

I have a Fusion and my 75lb Boxer loves it! He mostly sticks his head out the window. We went up north and he laid in the back and slept the entire time. I have a black cloth interior which I was a little hesitant on buying, but I put a blanket up when we travel with the dog and it's super easy to clean with a vacuum cleaner.

I would worry more about leather than cloth, because those doggie claws could rip a hold in the seats!  At least with cloth you can sweep the hair away.

I have a Basset Hound/Great Pyrenees mix. He's clumsy but he has long legs and can get into my Honda CR-V just fine.
