If my little brother was a girl, they were going to name him Claire. Hilarious when I think about my parents having an Amy, a Jen, and a Clair. (His name is Chip, by the way, but he's Steve Jr. so he is a "chip off the ol' block")

my question...are you/or would you be able to name your child a name you really like even if it reminds you of someone you don't like. For example. I like the name Benjamin. FI does not because it reminds him of a mean kid from elementary school.

the worst thing is when people name their kids rhyming names. i went to grade school with a girl name Mia her little sister's name was Gia and her mom's name was Leah. i would never do that to my children!

Def an older version of an Elizabeth nickname.I like different names as well. Like Magnus (although if I were Swedish it might be more fitting), Cooper, Harper, but not Ashanequa or McD'uff or crap like that. But what the h*ll was that gwen one? gwen-hefer? ugh.

But I promised Tim he could pick the name. I'm getting used to it and dont' think about smelly-gradeschool Mia anymore.

the worst thing is when people name their kids rhyming names. Agreed.I have a friend who is seriously dating a guy who's name last rhymes with hers--think Jamie Ramie as a married name. I'd not be thrilled with that, especially because I hate my last name and the family attached to it and can't wait to get rid of it.I also have a friend who got married and became Lesley Stahl. Hee. I am glad my married name is going to work well with my first name.

Awhile back there was a case where the grandparents were taking the parents to court over the childs name. Their Last Name was Pance. The first name they chose was Anson middle name Yur! Why do people hate their children?!

Okay, the children amongst my siblings and me are named Adrianne, Connor, Talbot, Cheney, Elizabeth, Isabel, James, and Chloe. The parent names are James, Randall, Patrick, Christine, Sara, and Maria. So, some rather traditional parent names naming their children some not so traditional names, but not too off-the-wall either.

Noodle wants to name our son Rex Stone, so he could go into porn. But what we're really going to name him is Nikolai Alexander.I wanted to name our daughter Isabella, but his younger sister named her daughter that (after I told her about it) so whatevs. I like the names Eleanor and Vivian. We're using my grandma's first name. So it would be Eleanor Rose or Vivian Rose.

FI's first and middle names are derived from both of his grandfather's names... dad's side for the 1st name, mom's side for the middle. We are going to do that for our 1st boy... Jeffrey Micheal. The other names we are kicking around are Micheala (or some variation) and Isabella for girls and Alexander for a 2nd boy.

RIGHT after I had the baby the nurses were all over me about the name and the spellings. I just ppped out an almost 8 pond baby and that was the last thing on my mind. Kay, Kaye,Kae, etc. I couldn't think straight.

i like unusual names, but they have to be "real" names. i also think differentiating a common name by giving it a weird spelling is just dumb. not only does it deny a kid the ability to ever have pencils or stuff with their name on it (that's not special order) they spend a lifetime correcting the spelling. i know a Madison that's spelled Mattisyn. STUPID

When I lived in Stepford my neighbor had a daughter named Maeylyn. (Maylin) I wrote her name on a card for a party once, and her mom was THRILLED that I had spelled it correctly!1!!1!!! I didn't have the heart to tell her I just f#cked it up as much as I could when I spelled it, figuring she was BSC enough to probably spell it just that way.
