Help! Anniversary gift for my parents

I've been killing myself the last few weeks trying to think of a special gift for my parents for their 40th wedding anniversary.  Well, I'm now 3 days away and still haven't thought of anything so now I'm coming to guys for some help.We want to get them an experience.  Something romantic, like dinner or maybe a night at a hotel.  I want it to be special -- so dinner at a small unique place that will give them a lot of personal attention would be great.  Maybe even a limo ride or something.  Any ideas?  We have about $600 budgeted (with my brothers).  They live in Aurora but we're willing to look anywhere within a couple hours drive.  Thanks for any suggestions!!

not sure if this is their "style" but check out Devils Thumb Ranch (www.devilsthumbranch.com)  It is up near Winter Park.  Very relaxing & romantic spot up in the mountians.  They have private cabins as well as a lodge that is BEAUTIFUL!  They have a wonderful spa, etc.  Their restaurant (the Ranch House restaurant) is FABULOUS!!!  I think you could give them a really nice weekend away up there for about $600.  But then again, maybe its not their style...who knows.  i'd say at least check out the website :)
no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!

The Beaumont hotel in Ouray is beautiful, it is a very quaint town and there are other larger towns in the area that they could visit.Have you thought about maybe doing theater tickets and a restaurant gift certificate?  That might be a fun idea for a "local" idea.  You could probably do the tickets, dinner and a night in a hotel for your budget.

Do you remember anything about how they met? What a "big night" for them was? If they ever mentioned a really special night was the time they went to the theater and stayed in a fancy hotel then maybe you could work to recreate that. I'm sure they'll love anything you get them and even more if you tried to make it exta special. That aside, I love progressive dinners. Drinks at a favorite bar, dinner at a great restaurant and dessert at fun ice cream shop. If you rented the limo you could tell the driver and he could know and just drive them and hand them gift cards to each location they arrive at when they get they with a little note about why they are there. GL!

How about replicating the top tier of their wedding cake? It could be delivered to whichever hotel they stay at. Estes Park has some great places!

i think the progressive dinner idea is great!  i would try to combine that idea with what someone else said about places that are important to them (especially if they grew up in CO or got married here).  for my grandparent's 50th anniversary, we (all the kids and grandkids) planned a huge dinner at the broker for them, with gifts from everyone.  they loved it because they got to see all the family.  the point of my story is it doesn't have to be something super expensive or anything, your parents are just going to appreciate a heartfelt gesture.  good luck!
