Baby Names (No I am not knocked up)

FI and I know we want to have babies in a few years, and we've thought up a few names in advance as they come to us. The boy names were easy - I've always loved Mason, and my Nana's maiden name is West and she's the last in the line. So Mason West Lastname will be our first son. One night as we were driving back from the state fair, we were talking about names again and somehow I suggested Max - strong and simple. We wanted a middle name to honor all of the Jameses in our family - both my grandfathers, my brother, my dad, his uncle, etc. Lots of Jameses. So we came up with Max Jameson (subtle reference to my favorite whiskey, too).

The girl names have been hard though. I love Harper, Paige and Marina. FI is INSISTENT upon Roxanne. Seriously.

So what are your future baby names (or current ones if you haz teh baybehs)?

I know our first boys name will be Hart Matthew. That's all I've got. I really love the name Dawn for a girl, but H isn't sold on it. I just really don't know what I want to name my kids. Edit: Plus, the baby name books overwhelm me.

Fun! I'm a firm believer in not sharing baby names while pregnant, but waiting until the baby arrives to share. It just seems like any name you say there are friends and family members who will dislike it or have some negative connection to it, etc.

With that being said, since you are all internet strangers. . . I can share some that I like!

For girls my latest obsession is Peyton, followed closely by Emerson.  We like my husband's name as a middle name for a girl actually, which is Lane.

For boys, my latest has been Beau or Leo with Thomas as a middle name (for my dad).  Beau with our last name has a very cowboy ring to it which I love.  I think, and I know this is beyond random, that a blond haired baby would be a better Beau and a dark haired one a better Leo.

My H's brother died so if we have a boy it would be named after him. Alexander. And we would use my Dad's name for the Middle name. Michael. So the initals would be AMC like the movie theatres.

Runner up names for boys are: Logan, Benjamin and Nathaniel

For a girl, I am obsessed with the name Grace. I told H and he said 'meh.' But we both like the name Isabelle. But we are struggling with middle names for girls.

Runner up girls names: Abigail, Charlotte, Brook, Lillian

So we are basically set in case we have 10 kids Tongue out

I love all your picks!! Well Roxanne, not so much.

I really want boys and maybe one girl. I love Liam Thomas--Thomas after FI's dad---but he hates Liam. We both like Corbin, Jack and Reid (FI's middle name). I've started liking Luca too and I like Elijah and Josiah and other old Biblical names.

Girls names...I have aways been obsessed with Gabriella Elizabeth, but I don't know if I love it as much as I used to. We also like Harper and Jocelyn.

Not sure why I always just spend a lot more time thinking about boys names. I've always joked too if we have a boy Reid and then a girl we have to name her Paige. I just love books haha

  • It was a tough choice when I named my daughter. My heritage is mostly Scottish and Irish and I'm in love with the names. I was going between Rosalind, gracelyn and a few others I can't remember at the moment. I ended up choosing Rosalind but its spelled Rosalyn pronounced Rozlyn, we call her rose for short. For boys I was partial to Declan.
  • My FH figured out his first son's name long before he met me, so I'm going with it. So our first son will be named Griffin MyLastName OurLastName. (I am changing my name, but I like the idea of one of our kids having my maiden name as a middle name) He's set on our kids having 2 middle names (because he & all of his siblings have 4 names). Personally, I don't see the point. He also wants to name a boy Maxamillion, but I put my foot down on that. (He named his cactus Max. And wants to name our first dog Max. I like the name Max, but I'm not naming a kid after a plant or a dog.)

As for girls, I want to name one of our girls to have a name like Lillian Olivia or something along those lines... because I'm weird and then her initials would be LOL. Oh yes. I would be one of those moms. But at the same time, I don't have any "must have names" for either gender.

I suppose I'm a reg on the Baby Names board on The Bump.  I hang out there entirely too much and have strong opinions on names :-)

Our top for a boy is Edmund.  Our top for a girl is Anastasia.

EDIT: I lurve Saoirse and Hart.
  • For boys, I'd like to acknowledge my grandfather, so I'd like to throw his  first or middle name, Richard Russel, in there. I also really like the name Rider - I feel like it's a name that would be strong and commanding. BF's dad's name is William, and I've always found that to be a strong name too.

For girls I love Gemma and Aurora Lee, but if I have a girl and name her Aurora, with BF's last name it would sound like a mouth full of marbles (my friends would call him Name Frustrated- Frust are the first 5 letters of his last name and it's tricky to pronounce at first) AuRoRa FRus... So we'll just revisit that when the time comes.

I'm a big believer in not having a definite name until after the baby is born - you want a name to fit their personality. I was either Chelsea or Sydney or Eve and my brother was either Nicholas, Zachary, or Evan. When he came out he looked almost albino and was super mild; my mother claimed that Nicholas and Zachary where too dark and harsh names for him.

  • Our first son with be Joshua James, after FI and his father. I really like Jamie for a boy with maybe Peter for the middle name.

For a girl I love Hannah Jolene. My grandma lived on Hannah Lane while I was growing up and I think it's a subtle but sweet tribute. I liked Lacey for the longest time but FI says it sounds like a stripper name so of course it ruined that.

Y'all are awesome. I find out our baby's sex next month and I have no idea about names. All of these are great. I just texted H and said we should name a girl Inara. I was mostly kidding. He hasn't texted me back. Don't think he would be thrilled to name out baby after a prostitute, fiction or not. Edit: H just texted me back and said that sounds great. Lets name a boy Wash.

Congrats on the baby and good luck at the u/s next month!!

H's best friend's fiancee is expecting a baby a few weeks after we are.  Before they found out they're having a boy, their top girl's name was "Elektra" which is totally stripper/prostitute-y to me (not to mention the mom is a psych grad student and fully aware of the Electra complex, eek!).  I have never been so relieved for a gender reveal in my life!

Oh this. I have a cousin named Madisynn and her sister is Allisynn.
  • My son is Damian Jaeger. No connection to Jagermiester. I wanted to name him Dominic, but he makes a good Damian. His friend at school is named Roman, and the kids call him Top Ramen. My son's school nickname is Macadamia Nut. My stepdaughter is Rachel Ashleen, born in 1995 and named after the Friends character, like many of her classmates. My other stepdaughter is MaryAnn Judith. DH's ex is LeAnn, her mom is Mary, and DH's mom is Judith. I'm not really a fan of this, but it wasn't my call and to each their own. DH and I aren't having any more, but if Damian had been a girl, his name would've been Vanessa or Jillian. Growing up, my parents always told me they each took a turn with the baby name book, wrote down the names they liked, and compared lists. Legend goes that Bonnie was the only name that was on both lists, so that's what they chose. However...three years ago SIL took a bunch of old family photos and made a digital album for my mom for Christmas. We were all there when my mom went through the album and pointed out her favorite family dog from her childhood, which was named...Bonnie. Yeah, I'm not the least bit bitter.

    Aurora Brooklyn aka Rory.

We refer to our future children by these names when we talk about them.
