Outdoor Ceremony Aisle Help Needed!

Hello Ladies!I am having an outdoor ceremony on the lawn of a country club and I need help with the aisle decor.  I have already made a few pomanders for the sides of the aisle and my florist has come up with a beautiful idea for the alter area, my problem is...what do I do with the aisle itself?  I have seen beautiful photos with rose petal designs, but according to my florist, this will cost $450...which I'm not willing to spend for 5 minutes of beauty.  As soon as someone walks down the aisle, it will get messed up.  I thought about DIYing an aisle runner, but I'm not sure if this is such a great idea since it will be in the grass.  The last thing I need is to have one of my girls, or myself trip while walking down the aisle.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Re: Outdoor Ceremony Aisle Help Needed!

  • One really cute thing we did for a friends wedding . We bought 3 rolls of her wedding color grosgrain ribbon and ran it the legth of the aisle on either side with 2 rolls  and then used those tacks you use on the black weed barrier to secure it to the lawn in a few place. The new initial was thankfully K which has all straight lines and we used tacks and ribbon to make a K in the middle of the aisle towards the beginning. It looked stunning and cost her less then $15 and only took us about 5 minutes the morning of
  • What a GREAT idea!!!!  Thank you so much for you help!  Should I rope off the aisle so the guests don't seat themselves using the aisle, I'm still afraid someone will get their foot caught under the ribbon and trip.  I know it won't be an issue for the bridal party, but I don't want a guest to hurt themself.
  • My DD had an outdoor wedding. The aisle was defined by the chairs on either side. The venue provided a runner, although I would have left it out. As I thought, the runner didn't lay down smoothly, blew in the breeze, and ended up looking silly and wrinkled. Keep in mind that what you're worrying about is a 30 second (at the most) walk. The focus of attention will be at the front where you and your FI will be. I would recommend not spending $$ or time on "decorating" an aisle, particularly for an outdoor wedding where Mother Nature provides more stunning decor than any decorator can.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • No need to robe off the aisle . The weed fabric tacks hold it pretty tight to the ground as long as you do it every few feet.  People did not trip on it at all
  • Where do you find these weed fabric tacks?
  • We're having an outdoor evening ceremony and are using luminaries with batter operated candles (so I don't light my dress on fire) in them to line the aisle.  But I really love the ribbon idea!! I'm thinking of doing it now too!
  • Why would your florist charge $450 for just rose petals?  Just buy a dozen roses from the supermarket, get some aggression out by destroying them, and ta-da, you've got a bunch of rose petals to sprinkle on your aisle for about $10.  Easy.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I love the garden tacks! This is just what I'm looking for! My mother is in an electric wheelchair and I was worried about the runner get tangled around her wheels, so this will be perfect! As far as not having guests walk on the runner, we're having the ushers seat guests on the outside aisles.  And we're also doing the grocery store rose petals. Our florist actually suggested it! I plan to give bouquets to the flower girls (their moms) at the rehearsal dinner so they can pick them off. This gives them an extra special role and it saves me the time from having to do it myself.
  • Thank you so much for your help ladies! Melissa, you are excatly right, if fact that is the exact photo I showed my florist.  I just can't see spending that much money for 5 minutes...it just doesn't make sence.  I am definately going to do the ribbon idea and I will more than likely rope off the end of the aisle with the same ribbon.
