Honeymoon in Aspen?

Hello Ladies. I am from Atlanta and am looking for some advice. FI and I want a honeymoon off the beaten path of sorts and going to Aspen came up. Our wedding is May 8, and  I was wondering what there is to do there that time of year and what the weather is like etc. We both like outdoorsy stuff to a certain degree and really just want to chill out for a few days. Any advice is appreciated!

Hi!  Early May can still be cold, and it can snow at higher elevations (including Aspen).  Our summers are short, but beautiful.  There's great hiking, or day trips to places like Glenwood Caverns or Glenwood hot springs, or the Breckenridge alpine slide.  If you or DH ride mountain bikes, you can take the lifts up and ride down the ski runs.  Or most ski areas have gondola rides without bikes too.  We honeymooned near Keystone, and found a great rental on Vacation Rentals By Owner (vrbo.com).

I agree it may still be a little cool... and Glenwood hot springs are always good. My FI and I LOVE yampa hot springs and vapor caves. They are also in Glenwood springs but worth the drive. If you go a hour or so west from there you will be in Grand Junction. If you guys like wine you will love some of the wine tours. Aspen is a great choice and you will love the feel of the town! Congrats and good luck

If you end up spending anytime in Glenwood Springs...eat at Italian Underground.  Its a cute little family owned Italian restaurant that totally reminds me of Lady & the Tramp :) LOL  Its our favorite restaurant in Glenwood!
no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!

I lived and worked in the Aspen area for the last 4 years so hopefully I can give you some good advice. The ski season ends about mid-April and then town just kind of shuts down.  That's when a lot of locals will go on vacation after overworking during the winter months.  The summer season typically starts around June.  May is a pretty time to go and the weather typically won't be too cold (except at night).  However, a lot of restaurants will be shut down for off-season.  It will be really really quiet.  The plus side is that you won't feel like you're in a tourist town and you will be able to find some excellent deals on lodging.  You may be able to see the Maroon Bells, (google image them, they are spectacular), but typically the road is still closed and full of snow until end of May.  The same goes for independence pass.  That time of year can be weird.  Snow may still be melting (or falling), so a lot of hiking and biking trails are out.If your goal is to do a lot of outdoorsy things and experience Aspen, I would wait until June 1.  If you two just want to cuddle up and have some quiet seclusion, May is a nice time to go.  HTH.
