Silk Flowers?

Hi, my name is Mallery and I've just started researching different options for my wedding...Has anyone here used silk flowers for their wedding? I'd like to try and save some money by using silk flowers.  If you have, did you work with anyone to create your boquets/centerpieces or did you do it yourself?Names of businesses you worked with would be great too! Thanks all!

Mandasue did silk flowers for her wedding.  She usually gets on in the evenings.

I did use silk flowers. I bought all of mine at Hobby Lobby during a 50% off sale. I bought enough for my bouquet, 5 bm bouquets, about 10 bouts and 6 or so coursages. I also bought flowers for the pews and a few very simple (single stem) centerpieces. I probably spent just under $300. I got so many compliments on them, but I did have a friend who used to be a professional florist put them together for me as her gift to us. She specifically asked to use silk because she has allergies (which is why she isn't a florist anymore!). I think it all depends on what you want. Silk flowers offer really good options, especially for bouts. There are small calla lillies that are already smaller, plus you don't have to worry about the time crunch, because you can make them ahead of time. We also added fresh baby's breath to them the week of to make them look a little more "alive." For me it worked really well, but I'm not going to say that it is necessarily cheaper. Do your homework, I did a wedding on a major budget. You can save money if you're willing to research lots of florists and seek out the best options. All in all, I loved my flowers, and I love that I still have my bouquet, without any crazy preservation expenses.

My plan is to use silk flowers for the "decor" but real for all the wedding party and honored guest flowers.  If I find what I want in a real flower, I might change my mind.  I got this specific color scheme in my head and I am set on it.  So far, with a lot of "looking around" I can not find what I want in real....I bought the silks from hobby lobby, decorators warehouse, and JoAnn.  They were not cheaper than if I just picked a pink rose combination for the decor in real flowers....but I might have MORE than if I bought real.  I designed the arrangements myself, but being an event designer for my job, it would have been silly for me to pay someone else. With FI and other guests having alergies, the silk really is a better idea for me.Good luck,Tiff
