I was in the Virgin Islands, but it was when I was 19; when dinosaurs roamed the earth.  :-)

Hawaii last hear...I mean year.  Crazy straw!!!!  And it's only 9am :)  Don't go to Honolulu...too commercial.  The other Islands are prettier.  Can she adopt me?  My mom isn't even COMINg to my daughters wedding, much less taking me on a trip.  Sounds fabu :)
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!

ck - I have 49 years experience as being a fabulous sister and I have no parents so adoption is totally on the table for negotiation.  Haven't you always wanted a big sister?  I haven't been to either place but which ever one you choose, I'm willing to take one for the team and join you.  (don't forget - I'm the one who offered the tanks). You certainly deserve the trip and your mom must be an angel.  Wherever you choose, have a wonderful time and of course, no presents for the kids when  you get home.

I wouldn't have any idea of what Hawaii looks like if I had to depend on my parents' photos! They went years ago when I was 15....and brought back pics of a pineapple plant and their hotel. LOL I'm envious- I haven't had a real vacation in 3 years. :( Can she adopt me too? Or maybe just stuff me inside a big suitcase? Sounds great- have a wonderful time wherever you decide to go!

jbn - I will adopt you.  Cake is beyond my fave food in the Intergalactic Universe, especially wedding cake.  I'm a pretty accomplished baker, but I can't decorate my way out of a paper bag.

Have been to the U.S. Virgin Islands and would recommend a vaca there in a heartbeat. Have not been to Hawaii, but my parents and DH's parents have been and they tell me it's not worth the horribly long plane flight and the high high prices for everything there.

I looked at a few sites for the Virgin Islands (St Croix), and was practically drooling. And one resort has a casino so my mom will jump at it. Thanks for the help, all, this is better than anticipating a Springsteen show! Oh, funny moment. I've flown across the country to see Bruce, and combined family visits with it. Mom said she is going to get his tour info and absolutely no way are we going somewhere where I can get to a show.

I've been to Hawaii and loved every minute of it.  I actually didn't want to go....I live in FL and see palm trees every day.  I thought it be a long way to go for what I see every day.  Boy, was I wrong!.We went to Maui, Kuai, and Oahu (not sure of the spelling of any of the Islands) and each was unique in its own way.  In Maui we went to the top of a dormant volcano, up above the cloud line to watch the sunrise...gorgeous.  We also took the road to Hanna and saw unbelievable sights.I remember I loved Kuai but don't remember much of it....must of been sucking on the crazy straw too much!On Oahu we stayed right in Honolulu.  Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor are such moving sights.  And what could be better than walking out one door of the hotel and being on the beach or walking out another door and shopping at world-class designer shops. To sum it up.....go to Hawaii.  It's well worth the flight time.

Hmmm Now I'm torn again!!! Well, it's not like I don't have time. It's just a nice distraction from the wedding. I'm considering telling my DD that we ARE doing seating whether she likes it or not---taking back my power, ladies! Not seating seating, just assigned tables. I don't know what she's thinking, but I think it would be chaos otherwise. Any opinions? And any casinos in Hawaii?

Sorry, no casinos in Hawaii.CK, I just read your post over on P&E regarding the seating chart.  I don't totally agree with what many of them said...."it's their wedding so they get the say."  First of all, if my daughter had even thought about not having assigned tables at her wedding, her head would have been rolling on the floor.  I find the lack of assigned tables to be very rude and it just seems to remove the element of class from the event.  I know that if she hadn't had assigned tables, I wouldn't have been able to sit down and be comfortable until I saw that everyone else had someplace to sit and knew the people they were with.  That was not the way I wanted to spend the reception time.Since you seem to favor the idea of assigned tables, tell your daughter that since you're paying, that's the way it's going to be .  Do your own family and friends and then sit the B&G down and don't let them up until they've done their friends and his family.I found the easiest way to do it was to use paper plates as the tables and sticky notes for the people.  You can just keep moving them around until everyone is assigned to a table.  I did my tables in about 15 minutes and then my DD and her DH did the rest in about an hour.  Hope this helps a little....sorry it's so long!

no no don't worry about the length! I totally agree about the tables, it'll drive me nuts and I'll end up going around making sure everyone's been introduced and getting conversations started.... the last wedding I went to did have assigned tables, but a bunch of us ended up at what we called the "red headed stepchild" table. I just can't believe it won't be pure chaos and considering how badly she's upset me lately, I'm beginning to believe she's lost her right to having a say. She'll probably throw a fit, but I think I'm just going to have to pull out the receipts and tell her no problem, do whatever you want, let's sit down and work out a payment plan. Know what I mean?

Totally understand.  Sometimes, no matter how old they get, you still have to be the mom and let them know how it's going to be.Many of these brides state that they've been to very few weddings and suddenly, because they have a diamond on their finger, they become the authority on everything wedding related.  They need to realize the momma often knows best!  Not always, but often!!!!!
