Zumba

Anybody done it? I'm going to my first class tonight. I'm highly  uncoordinated, though, so I'm a tad worried. I've heard it's a blast, though

I have and I don't really like it.  It is fun and time goes by fast, but I didn't really feel like I got a quality "workout." Don't worry about being uncoordinated... if I remember correctly, you repeat a similar sequence for a whole song so by the time the first sequence is over you can get the hang of it.

It's a Latin dance "workout class"

They gym I go to just started it.  I felt like Tiff did at first--like it's not a workout.  But if you suck your abs in the whole time and really try to work the moves, you'll be out of breath by the end of it.  I'm not a huge fan of it though.

Stephie - I probably didn't give it enough of a chance... so I shouldn't judge.   I recommend everyone give it a try.. it seems to have a loyal following at my gym.I'm a jogging, spin class, weights class, pilates kinda girl and it just didn't feel like a workout IMO.

I've taken it at LA Fitness...they call it Latin Impact there and I think the quality of the workout depends on the instructor. One instructor's class was lame and hardly a work out, while another girl's class was like Latin bootcamp. Her's was a high impact, intense workout and fun too. Wish I could find where she teaches now...that was a great class.

Tiff same here:  kickboxing, spin, weights, pilates are more my thing.  I am about to start going to Zumba on Thursdays though starting next week because I want to add an extra workout from now to the wedding and that was the only class I can get to after work on a Thursday.  I should be a pro soon.  :)

I like it because I sweat a ton doing it and if I'm not sweating I'm not working hard. Its fun and it something totally different than a spin class or pilates. Another one to try is cardioboxing.

I have only been once, and I wasn't totally thrilled. It just felt silly to me, I was laughing for the first half of the class. I wear a bodybugg (like on the Biggest Loser) and I burned over 400 calories in that hour. Not a mind-boggling amount, but respectable for an hour of cardio. I do have a friend from college who teaches in the Dallas area, and I promised her I'd give it another try or two before I totally discount it.

I love Zumba. I like how you're working on one thing for a little while, and just when you start to get fatigued something else starts. It kept me moving and engaged.

I don't care for it much...I like to maximize my calorie burn though so I do more intense things like bootcamp, spin class, or running.  If I were looking for a "light" workout, then I might consider it.
