Usher help!

Is it wrong to not have ushers?? We are having an outside wedding, not a church wedding. We have 4 groomsmen, but i want them at the front of the isle with the groom and not seating all the guests. Should the groomsmen seat just the grandmothers and then take there place up front? I'm so confused. My mother is not happy with the idea of not having ushers, she's very traditional. My idea was for her and her husband to walk down together, then my stepmother and my brother (who is a groomsman) and have him take his place after. Then the girls will come down, then my father and I. Is there anything wrong with this?

    yea i understand what you are saying. Thanks! My problem is it's kinda late for me to pick ushers. I get married in 17 days and i don't want to insult anyone by asking them to be an usher so late. I'll jsut have to work with what i got i guess and hopefully people won't be upset if they are esscorted by a groomsman/usher.

    No, you don't have to have ushers. It's a nice touch for a more traditional, formal ceremony, but not necessary, especially for an outdoor ceremony. But it is sort of a formality to have someone seat the honored guests, like parents and grandparents, or any elderly or handicapped guests. The GMs can easily double for this, as the parents are seated last, signalling that the ceremony is to begin. Then they can join the groom and officiant and take their places at the altar. Or you can ask another male relative to do the honors. Usually an uncle, brother, or cousin of the bride or groom could be called upon for such a brief duty.
