Destination Weddings Discussions

New Here

hey girls, im new to this board. FI and i were planning a big traditional wedding in NY for may 2010. Over the weekend we decided to ditch those plans and we are going for a destination wedding in jamaica for feb 2010!!! We hadn't really dont that much planning to where it was a big mess or loss of money to drastically change plans like we are doing. However, we just sent out STDs with our may 14 wedding plans. My question is now that we are doing the DW, do we still extend the invitationa to these ppl, knowing that they most likley will not come. We are planning to host an informal reception for spring/ early summer for those who could not make the wedding.  We were thinking of sending something when we return from the wedding invtinng ppl to our informal reception.  But we would def need to let traveling guests know now that we are not doing the wedding as previously planned in may. So wwyd???? Still send jamaica wedding invites to everyone, or just our close friends and family, since most ppl will not be coming to jamaica?? i should mention that our guest list was about 200...

Re: New Here

  • Welcome to the Board! About the invites it's all about what you guys want. If you only want close friends and family, send out a card to everyone saying that wedding plans have ben change and they will be recieving and invitation to a reception later. And just send out an invite for the people you want to come to Jamaica. If you don't mind having more people, then send the invite to everyone...even if they won't come.Happy Planning!
  • Normailed gives good advice!!I would send something out ASAP, saying plans have changed, and then that buys you a little time to figure out who's going to the wedding. If you don't think anyone will come to Jamaica, it couldn't hurt inviting them... but be warned, they may surprise you and actually show up!
  • Welcome to the board!!!  It's great to see new faces. It sounds like maybe you should send out a new STD, maybe saying "Ooops!  Our plans have changed and the details, but also letting people know to look for an invite to your reception at home.
  • I really am f no help... but I want to say HI and welcome to the board!

  • Hi and welcome to the best board on The Knot! Are the people you sent STD's to all the same people you will invite to your informal reception?  (Those are referred to as AHR's - at home receptions.)  If so, would you consider keeping May 14th as the date for your AHR?  That way you can save the hassle of redoing all those STD's and maybe do an email or something less formal to let them know that you'll be married in Jamaica but that date is still your celebration with the family. If you still want to mail something out, you can sign up for emails at vistaprint.com and they will bombard you with offers for free postcards, magnets, etc and you can use those as your new STD's if your budget is a concern.Glad to have another DW knottie in the house - enjoy your time here!
  • Welcome to the board!!!
  • thanks for all the advice! we were thinking of keeping may 14 as the at home reception, but we wanted to do something outdoors. and we live upstate ny, so the weather could still be iffy.....but idk, we'll figure it out!
