Bridesmaid Flowers...what do you think??

I usually think maids look kind of awkward walking down the aisle and standing up there holding a bouquet...(I don't really even want one! ha ha :) I am entertaining the idea of my maids having wrist corsages instead... I like the look of unhindered arms walking down the aisle. (That sounds silly, but I hope you know what I mean. You know, like going down a runway, but less runway-ish. ha ha) Also, one of my maids is the mother of the flower girl and they will be walking together, with the husband, who is a groomsman...I think a corsage would be easier for her to manage. Would people think the wrist corsages vs. bouquets looked cheap? Thanks girls!

    I think it's just a matter of personal preference, and that you should ask your BMs what they would feel more comfortable with. Some feel wrist corsages are a little outdated. I personally feel they are very uncomfortable, and might catch on the dress if it's easily snagged. But they would allow for a "hands free" option if needed. Personally, I would prefer to carry a bouquet to have something to do with my hands. I would be nervous and self conscious, and never know what to do with my hands, and tend to walk unnaturally when nervous.

    I agree with pp, I will feel less awkward holding a bouquet. The bridesmaids may feel the same way or not, I'd ask them how they feel about it.     I totally understand what you are saying about bouquets. Personally we skipped them entirely and had the only 2 flowers be my FG each gave 1 rose to each mom. I think wrist cosages make me thing 1980's prom but and I may be biased due to my own choice I think ladies look fine without holding any flowers just walking

    Aha ha ha, yeah, I do see what you all are saying about it being outdated...but I guess I was thinking that because it IS so old, that it would be unique to do it again now! Ha ha, I definitely don't want it to be cheesy!! LOL. I guess I'll have to think more about it. :)

    I don't think it'd be cheesy to skip the bouquets. Wrist corsages are fine if that's what you want. Other options are parasols, fans, purses, presentation bouquets (the ones that lay in the crook of your arm), pomanders, candles or lanterns, or nothing at all.

    I really like this train of thought - bridesmaids not carrying flowers, or anything. I am actually considering not carrying a bouquet, but am not sure i have the nerve to skip it totally. If anyone has additional ideas, i'd love to hear them. With respect to the alternative ideas mentioned previously, i love the idea of candles and my first reaction was that it would be beautiful. However, it also might be impractical (they would blow out as you walk, risk of 'mishaps' too high). Parasols are cool and then could be a decor item after the ceremony. hmmmm.. i'm going to look on etsy for something interesting.

    How about if they wear a boutonnier like the groomsmen?  I see a lot of mothers and grandmothers wear the flower on their dress, a long as they can get it pinned on.

    Depending on the dress, a boutonniere is a great idea. Also, i just saw a cool - non 80's - wrist corsage. It was just one purple anemone on a green leaf. Simple but just a spot of color. Also, i figured that i'll need on girl to hold my flowers and one to deal with my train while we're at the altar so no bouquet is really practical.

    You can really have them carry or not carry anything you like. This is about what you like. I think a small pomander ball is a hands free option. They can carry it, or loop it around their wrist and carry it that way also. If wrist corsages are date, then I would think fans and parasols would be too. Or a very simple, affordable option is for them to carry one rose, or wear a simple corsage or flower in their hair.
