NWR: Cutting out Caffeine?

I swore yesterday that if, when I stepped on the scale this morning, I had not lost weight, that I was cutting out caffeine, all but my morning coffee.  So..today I have had one cup of coffee compared to my normal FOUR..then usually a soda for lunch, then a soda in the afternoon and then usually TWO at night..and those are bottles that say 2.5 servings on the label mind you..that means I have ALOT of caffeine normally in the day.  I am drinking my water now and absolutely dying for a cup of coffee..ugh.

Re: NWR: Cutting out Caffeine?

  • I think you may go into withdrawal.  I've never heard of someone drinking that much caffeine ever!  Please supress your urge to kill me, but I don't drink anything with caffinated.  I would probably be bouncing off the walls with one soda!
  • Wow.  I only drink a cup or two of coffee a day and maybe 1 cup of soda, but you are so a better woman than I am.  You would have heard about me on the news already!
  • Drink a cup of green tea during the day to help get past the soda withdrawl.  It's got caffine but shouldn't give you the bloat.

  • Thanks!  I love it, too :)
  • Yea, that's sort of a scary amount of caffine.  Maybe to help you out in the beginning don't cut everything completely just switch to decaf/caffine free soda.  I have one cup of coffee a day and a diet soda maybe twice a month but think your setting yourself up for failure going cold turkey.  Not to mention the withdrawal headaches.
  • I'm guilty of much diet soda consumption....I feel your pain, SimplyMistaken.  I only used to drink water until I met my FI, who drinks only Diet Pepsi.  So I usually drink 2 cups of coffee and about 4-6 glasses of soda a day. I cut it ALL out and started Atkins - no coffee or Alcohol and got the headaches and the dizzy feeling but stayed caffeine free for 4 months. I caved to the pressure 2 weeks ago and went crazy on soda, coffee AND wine!!!Now I'm back to only 1 cup of coffee a day and only water....Would decaf help you get your afternoon coffee fix?  I love Starbucks iced decaf coffee with sugar free hazlenut.....
  • I am in process of drinking a cup of green tea.  Maybe while I get through this I will do that once a day..problem is I LOVE soda..I mean LOVE LOVE..  :)

  • I would die without my morning cup of coffee, die of constipation.

  • I was 'off' caffine from february until last week. It wasn't awful at all. I just got a craving for some coffee one day and started drinking it again, but it's not difficult to do. In fact I'll probably go back off it shortly. I did get a head ache last week when I DIDN'T have caffeen the one day.

  • O boy, that is a lot of caffeine!  I drink one cup of coffee in the a.m. and normally a diet pepsi in the afternoon.  I normally have a cup of decaf green tea at night.  I don't think the coffee is THAT loaded with calories unless your putting mounds of sugar and cream in it.  I use the fat free half and half and I can't tell the difference, and I also use splenda.  If you're drinking diet soda, you're probably just consuming a lot of sugar with it, so I would def try to cut down on that.  I agree though, you may not want to cut down that drastically at first, slowly wean yourself off the caffeine!!!
