Morning after pill

O.K. girls I know this might be a little personal, but I'm sharing for the good of the group.I used the morning after pill yesterday. Just for everyone's info it was easy and I had no pain or side effects. Of course, everyone is different, but I had no problems.The story is: remember a few weeks ago when I was VERY sick??? I threw up for 2 days and of course couldn't take any medication due to my nausea, including my birth control pill that I've taken since I was 19!. I've been back on the pill regularly since then, but was told by my doctor to use precautions until my next pack of pills. So I told my wonderful but stupid fiance that we had to be careful, and what does he do when he visited me on our day off Wednesday night???? He said, "OMG, SORRY IT JUST SNUCK UP ON ME!" He begins to tell me how he just got caught up in everything and forgot until I mentioned it. I mean HOLY SH**, how do you forget that??? It's not like we want a baby right now with our wedding in the works and already paid for. It wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't have 20 family members and friends that have already paid for their trips. So then I laid there in the bed, couldn't sleep, and stressed about it all night as my fi sleep like a log. The next morning I called my doctor and she recommended that I use the pill just in case. It was $50, but worth it for the peace of mind. My insurance didn't cover it. I know this might sound too personal, but I thought it might be helpful to another girl on the board that someday might experience something similar.Thanks for listening girls.Hugs!!!

    Okay, what you need to do right now is relax. As a "medical professional" that is the best advice right now. Stress can definitely prolong the start of your cycle. Let me ask you this, when is your next period due? You really can't do anything until then. There supposedly is test out there that can tell if your preggers 5 days before your missed period. But seriously, don't waste your money.

    Sorry, I hit post too soon. Honestly, the MAP is usually pretty effective when taken correctly. It gives you more than triple the amount of hormones that you need. I seriously would not recommend you take a test. When taken too early you can get a false positive then you would be really freaked out. I don't know if this makes you feel any better or relaxes you a bit...but just breathe!

    The doctor told me to continue using my bc pills and go with the cycle. I've still got 3 weeks left on my pack, so I guess it will be 3.5 weeks until my next cycle. I have a lot more peace of mind since I used the morning after pill, but still.....

    Thanks PhillyCop, I appreciate the support. I will probably wait just because a false positive would really freak me out. It's only been 2 days so I'm in limbo now. I really think I will be o.k. I took the MAP within 12 hours from the event and took it EXACTLY as it was directed. Breathe, breathe Jen...

    I would be freaking out too but I think everything will be fine!  I do feel the need to go after school special on you though, pulling out is NOT an effective method of BC.

    Glad you thought to use Plan B, and that you didn't have any side effects. I've taken it before and didn't have any problems with it either.For future use, you can always check with your local Public Health clinic...most of them offer it for pretty cheap (or free, depending on income). Also, just FYI, it may mess with your next period and make it a few days late. So don't completely panic if your next one is a couple days late.

    I get your drift and that would be great if I didn't get anaphylactic shock from all latex products since I was 24. I've tried other types of materials, but the success rate is much lower than latex. I never used to have a problem with it before and then one day at work I used some gloves and ended up being treated by EMS because I broke out in hives and couldn't breathe. I've thought about the iud, but I just don't think it will be very long after we get married that we start trying for a baby. Maybe a year??? My doc said the iuds are for more long term like 3-5 years. I guess I could have tried the diaphram, but it just never crossed my mind since I've never used it before. I just knew that I had been on the pill for 14 years and figured with all of those hormones it would be o.k. as long as we didn't tempt fate. Hindsight: I should have known better! Definitely!

    Sorry, I didn't mean it to sound that way.  I just know lots of people wo do think it's an effective method so just kinda wanted to put it out there.  I've been on the pill for 13 years so I know what you're saying.  I'm paranoid enough that if I need a "back-up" method because antibiotics or whatever I just go with the full proof method, abstinence.  Lol.  I hate condoms.

    Oh no, Future Mrs.Mc I definitely didn't take it that way. You are 100% right!!! I'm just weak on the whole abstinence thing when he comes into town and I haven't seen him in 7 or 8 days! hahahahahah!!! You get spoiled by the pill and you just don't think until it's over and you're like HOLY CRAP! Thanks for your post and your support, it helps when I'm stressed about something and have it stuck on my brain.

    Oh good.  I thought you're angry at me!  Glad to hear we're still puppies and rainbows ;).  Anyway, I know a few people who have used the Plan B and had no problems.  Well except for one friend, it didn't work because she was already 4 weeks pregnant!  Lol.

    Oh no, it's good. Maybe I should really watch me an after school special and get my head on straight! hahahaha!!! I've never used it before and I was a little scared to be honest. All I could think about was me being 6 months preggo standing on the beach in Jamaica getting married. My fi wasn't even freaked out by it, which makes me think he is a bit more ready for babies than me...

    Sorry - jumping in here.I actually read in the newspaper somewhere that they did a study and a pulling out method was 97% effective when used properly. I also have friends in the medical field that have used it, and are still baby free.I know it's not the right solution for everyone, but there is always two sides of every coin.

    In Illinois, you can get Plan B at any pharmacy without a prescription. You just have to have a pharmacist on duty to dispense it so if there's a 24 hour Walgreen's or anything by you, you could have gone there if your state has a similar law. (Not sure if this is a state law or what.) I've never used it but I'm glad you were able to get it when you felt you needed it.
