Jersey Shore

I finally sat down and watched this show last night. Holy moly.

I love how that one girl clearly had no idea what the word "audacity" means. I also thought that they were all really young, but apparently at least one guy is 27? And they work in a t-shirt shop in Seaside? Wow, high standards.

And from the promo clips I was led to believe that everyone was gorgeous and desirable ... there is not one remotely attractive person on that show. WTF is wrong with Snooki's face? She looks like an old catcher's mitt.

I will admit it, I love this show!!!  I dvr'd it last night to watch the grey's-private practice crossover so please don't spill any hints from last night!

MB, they work in that shore to pay for the house I think.  Like on the Real World, MTV hooks them up with jobs, that's what happened on this show too.
I was disappointed by the eye candy too, but I do dig Ronnie.

It is absolutely brilliant tv.  I didn't want to watch it at first because I do *not* enjoy NJ bashing, but I came around when I found out that only one of them is from NJ.

Such an utter trainwreck, with some amazing moments.  I actually do think that some of them (Snooki, Vinny, Paulie D) are decent people deep down.

I have trouble believing that The Situation is younger than 40 -- holy sun damage!

The NY Magazine Top Ten Catchphrase rundowns every week are must-reads (here's a link to last week's ... this week's isn't up yet: http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/01/jersey_shore_recap_top_ten_cat.html)

And I thought this was awesome: http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/show/jersey_shore/jersey_shore_rules_of_a_summer.php

I am not so secretly in love with that show. I hate how it portrays the Jersey Shore life- but at least they all admit to being "ghuittos" (sp??). Too funny

I don't think they have to pay rent or anything -- I think like any Real World job they get some spending money out of it, but jobs ensure that they leave the house and have something to be accountable for and that they don't just sit around all day doing nothing (see Jon Brennan and Jay from RW London).  That's also why they don't have tvs in the houses.

omg, i want to punch Snooki myself... she is absolutely obnoxious, as is The Situation.  Vinny and Ronnie are the only 2 that I can tolerate.

Yeah, well MTV does supply them with the job. That's what I meant. My bad.

I can't imagine being there with no tv;however, if I were on the show, I'd be laying on the beach all the time not tanning beds.

I was watching it with my brother & sister, and they said that the guy who owns the t-shirt place also owns their house ... so I guess he gives them free room & board in exchange for working in his shop.

The very first time I saw it, I caught about five minutes of an episode where one of the guys was whining that he had pink eye and would have to call out of his first day of work, and I was wondering what "work" was. Then they cut to him standing in one of those boardwalk t-shirt stores and I almost fell off my couch laughing.

    Uppereastgirl....That recap is hilarious.

I must admit that I think this is one of the most entertaining showws on TV.  It does make the jersey shore look bad but I truthfully think that these people are exactly like a good part of the population in seaside in the summer.  They may not be the majority but they are in masses at the clubs and on the boardwalk.

My sister said she was talking to some out-of-state friends who said, "They HAVE to be actors, there can't actually be people who act this way in real life!"

She also has a Staten Island friend who attended UMASS and the friend had classmates ask her if "True Life: I'm From Staten Island" was real.

oh absolutely- these aren't Jersey shore natives- but they are what consume certain towns: Seaside, Belmar... And I thought MTV provided everything- like the house, they pay for the drinks etc. That's how they can afford to go out everynight. As far as the tanning at tanning salons... remember how rainy and gross out it was this summer? Most of June and a lot of August was raining... hopefully that's why they were in the beds instead of on the beach!

They are def a small subset.  Even the staten island show.  I grew up on staten island and I dont think I was anything like those people but I do know people like them.  These people are real but I also think they are people who want to be seen and heard so they jack up their personalitites for camera.  They want to be the next big thing.

My friends daughter used to date Danny, the owner, he is legit and very wealthy.  But some of the stuff is staged.  He said the part about Vinny taking his girl was staged for the show.

From a Facebook Blast that I wrote:

I think MTV's Jersey Shore show is a hilarious train wreck. The show is basically "The Guido-American Real World." They casted the most unattractive, pea-brains with the WORST personalities. The show does not represent the People from New Jersey (ie: only one girl is actually from NJ- from WhiskyTango-Hazlet), it is depicting the TRASH that goes down the shore for the Summer. These people should not be classified with the rest of the Italian-American's in NJ. They are a different class.... a very low and disgraceful class.

I will continue to watch the show because I find it entertaining. I can imagine being out in Seaside and rolling my eyes at these people. They are so much fun to make fun of because they look and act ridiculous!

Will this hurt or benefit Seaside Heights? Does the show do additional damage to the already existing bad reputation of Sleazeside Heights? C'mon people it's the Jersey Shore..If hypodermic needles don't scare people away a show about 8 loser guidos/ettes is hardly going to put a dent in shore tourism. I can guarantee that for Summer 2010 the boards will be packed, the beach will be laden with half-naked bodies and parking will be scarce... a very tyipcal Jersey Shore summer.

On a side note, I'm still trying to figure out how the kid with the Brooklyn-blowout is from Rhode Island?? Really??

This may be silly, but why are the bars and clubs always empty?  I went down the shore all the time when I was younger and the clubs were always packed, where you couldn't even walk.  This was in the summer, right?

I really don't like Mike.  I won't even call him his nickname because it's as ridiculous as he is.  He is an ass plain and simple.  Paulie seems like he actually might be a nice guy, even though we know he's a player.

I don't have too much to say about the girls--I don't like how Sammi gets Ronnie in trouble.  Not saying he doesn't get in some on his own, of course.  I do like Ronnie and Vinny and think they both have a good heart though.

Also wanted to say that these chics they are picking up are not so hot, to say the least.

Brad, do you not watch tv/go out in public?  If so, you surely must know that Jersey Shore is a hot topic nowadays, which means people watch it.  Even Fox News (which is what I picture as your must-see tv) must talk about it?

The clubs are empty half the time because they are going out 7 days a week.  Fri-Sun it's happening down there, but on a random Tuesday night a bar might not have too many people.

This summer was rainy which is one reason why I think they don't hang on the beach.  I also think they cut a lot of those scenes out because they would be kind of boring and they probably have to get a release for every face they show on tv, so it's not worth it if they are just sleeping there.

"Situation" has become a permanent part of my vocabulary! OMG, my friends and I say it all the time now, even when we're not spoofing on the show.

I have to agree with Victoria, I think this is brilliant programming.  It's so trashy and over the top, that you can't help but watch! I literally watch it like a comedy. I just laugh and quote everything.

Favorite quote from last night, "Because I'm not trashy or anything.  Unless when I'm drinking."- Snickers! LMFAO!

The first episode I said BS! This can't be real.  This whole thing is fake.  I then realized that it's pretty real, but of course they put them in situations to connect to their inner guidos.  They constantly ask them in the interviews about being guidos, painted an Italian flag on their gargae, and put a Bible on their kitchen table.  At home I'm sure they don't go around saying, "I'm a guido!!!" every day, but when asked about it they play it up.  They know they are on that show to portray a guido, and I think they do their best to stay as over the top as possible.

I have to say I actually like Vinny and Pauley D.  I think they're not actually such bad guys and pretty true to who they are.  Ronnie is dumb but not so bad.  Snickers is just a lost soul but I don't think she's malicious.

The Situation is annoying but hilarious and Sammi and JWoww just come across as bytches.

Good synopsis Tif. I agree. I think Vinny is turning out to be my fav because he just kinda stays outta the BS and seems like a pretty real guy.  I also have a soft spot for Snickers...I think because she just seems so young and naive. I don't know what it is, but I dol  And that quote for the latest show is a classic! haha
