North Carolina-Outer Banks

Casual affordable catering.

Helllo everyone! I was wondering if any one has had any experience with some caterer's in the outer banks for their wedding or have booked someone that gave you a reasonable price!

We're getting married in on May 31st 2012 with mostly just Family and close friends present. We were going to attempt to cook ourselve,s because of budget costs, but I would really like everyone to be able to just enjoy themselves.

Does anyone know of any buffet style caterers, preferably homestlye north carolina cooking that are in a decent price range??? I've already looked into Tom Thumb's cookouts, he seems to offer what we're looking for, but we're still waiting for a reply. If you've used Tom Thumb's we'd love to hear any feed back on them or any other caterers! Thank you!!

It's tough to balance everything and keep everything in budget.  We did a lot of DIY and that occupied a lot of my time.  So, catering was one of those things that I did decide to spend the money on.  If people were going to travel to our wedding, we wanted them to have a nice meal and plenty to drink.  That was the one time that I really got to relax all week because the caterers took care of all that.  If you can squeeze it into your budget, I highly recommend catering.  The night goes by so fast, you want to be able to talk to people and not be restocking the buffet.

I've never heard of Tom Thumb myself, but it sounds like a good idea.  I seem to remember someone a while back mentioning their caterer going MIA, but I cannot find the thread or remember who it was.  Another thought is bringing someone in from out of town, like Elizabeth City.  Probably much more afforable than someone directly in OBX itself.

We used High Cotton Barbq.  Was the most reasonable we found and the food was delicious and very plentiful.  You can check out their catering menu online.?We chose the drop off.setup option.  I would highly recommend,

High Cotton is highly recommended on this board :)

You can also look under the Outer Banks Wedding Assoc page, which has a complete list of vendors for catering, photography, etc.

Defintely use a BBQ catering company.  Some companies even offer the plates, silverware, and glasses.  Plus North Carolina BBQ is soooo popular.  It tastes great and it is a huge hit.

We were originally going to use Tom Thumb's because he was so reasonable.  I got a quote for BBQ, Chicken, Shrimp, Corn on the Cob, Beans, Hush Puppies, Lemonade, Plates, Forks, Napkins all for around $900.00 for 45 guests but my mom talked me out of it.  We did, however, use their bartender.  It was Carl's (the owner) daughter and she did a fabulous job.  I never had any communication problems with Carl...he either always answered or called me right back.

Maria - I remember the thread you're referring too about the caterer going MIA.  It was Smokin' Man BBQ/Steve Johnson/Amy Walker.

we used High Cotton for our Rehearsal and absolutely everyone loved it- the left overs were great the next day too!  With all 3 options (ribs, pork AND chicken) it's about $16/person.  For the wedding day we used Gwen Hart with Enchanted Cuisine (formerly Culinary Magick) and that was $25/person.
