I think part of the thing with the Minnigs might be the quantity. The two weddings that I have seen them do were delivered in 10 weeks for one and 3 weeks for the other. However, both of them received well over 4,500 photographs completely retouched! I think it also depends on the time of year. The 3 week one was in April and the 10 week one was in August. I've heard of many of the higher end photogs in the area taking quite a while. I know the Weibners are at around 10 weeks on average as one of our friends used them in July. A friend of ours from NY got married last May and her photog averaged 12-14 weeks.
Hey Molly, Not sure when you'll get a chance to read this (I'm sure you must have a pretty hefty to-do list!), but I wanted to address this post from last week's RTD photography thread. As a recent bride (and one who was VERY much into the research and selection of her own photographer), I find it odd that you would defend the length of time the client receives their images as if it's perfectly acceptable and nothing for clients to get frustrated with. Also, I'm quite aware that several of your oft-mentioned photographers' clients are waiting 3-5 months for their images. Perhaps it would be one thing had they been forewarned before booking, but it's quite another to keep pushing back vague milestones, thereby resulting in pissed off clients. Negative word of mouth can be a killer. Especially among Knotties. Furthermore, retouching thousands of photos individually is quite the task and really not necessary. What bride is going to print 4.500 photos? Sure, spend time on the really great ones and batch edit the remainders. If someone has to spend that much time processing, it scares me what the raw product must look like out of the camera. I feel really badly for these girls waiting so long. My amazing photog (very highly in demand in the Philly area) had a teaser blog of 33 images four days after my wedding, and my disk of 800 images in my hands by two weeks. In fact, I think he processed and edited my blog on the road to a senior session in Chicago! And p.s., the slacking photog in question =/= The Wiebners.
