They'd have to do all the stereotypical NYC things, and some I've never even done: Like see the Statue of the Liberty and the Empire State Building. I'd also take them to Times Square, Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They'd have to see a Broadway show, go to a ridiculously fancy and expensive restaurant, ride the subway at 3 in the morning and eat a hot dog from a cart.

Now I want to travel more.  *facepalm*

I have played tour guide before! I would make sure to take people to:
-Halifax Waterfront.  Third deepest harbour in the world, lots of shops, lots of attractions and very scenic
-See the Bluenose II in Lunenburg/see historic Lunenburg.  Good trip.
    - Keji national park (and my cottage b/c it's right outside the park)(http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/ns/kejimkujik/index.aspx)
-Downtown Hali for the pubs and nightlife.
    - Brewery tours (we have 3 or 4 local breweries that are WICKED)
-Public Gardens, Point Pleasant Park and the Dingle (where we have a memorial to Sir Sandford Flemming, inventor of modern standard time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Sandford_Fleming_Park)
-And some beaches for NS swimming (it would have to be a summer trip;) )

What about the Freedom Trail!? I only lived there for 2 years, but I can't tell you how many times I walked that thing. That's what we did every time family came.

I have never done the Freedom Trail. You drive by it and they mention it on the Duck Tour. Maybe something I should do this upcoming summer!

Now you KNOW I gotta chime in on this, being from NOLA Wink .

(P.S. after I posted the "what other boards do you visit," y'all have sent me on a wild goose chase checking out other boards....I am back now tho....).

    For first-time tourists:
French Quarter, Jackson Square, Cafe du Monde, Bourbon Street (And bars on Bourbon St: Cat's Meow, Tropical Isle, Krazy Korner, Oz....), walk along the MS River, take the streetcar...
Places to eat: Commander's Palace, ACME Oyster, Mother's, Central Grocery...

For someone who has been there before and wants to explore a little more:
Jazz clubs on Frenchman Street, shopping on Magazine St, streetcar on St Charles St, Riverwalk/Moonwalk, Audobon Zoo and/or Aquairium, NOLA Art Fair...
Places to eat: Deanie's maybe, Jacques'imos, Camellia Grill, Napoleon House maybe, omg there's so many good places to eat I just need to stop there...

There are SO MANY MORE things but I need to cut myself off at some point Tongue out.  Can you tell I love my city....

ETA I also HAVE to mention: Preservation Hall and Pat O'Briens.  Ok ok I'll stop now...

It's a good thing for tourists. You hit the big points and it keeps you from getting lost/needing to follow maps too closely.

    Oh yay!!  Aren't they wonderful?

The Hall is great, though a little claustrophobic (if you're prone to that), but a beautiful and historic venue.  Y'all should come down sometime! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

And (because it is New Orleans), it bears mentioning that Pat O'Briens is Right next door, which has a beautiful patio but also, STRONG hurricane and hand grenade drinks.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" /> People usually mention both of them in 1 sentence just b/c of their proximity....
