Does anyone have a bakery they recommend that's inexpensive and still does a great job? Thanks so much for any suggestions!!!

Any particular part of the metroplex you'd like to stay with?

I'm not sure of your budget or where you're located in the Dallas area, but I got my cake from Candy Haven in Denton and thought it was great and a good price.

Believe it or not, Sam's Club has good cakes, and now does wedding cakes. They are very reasonably priced and they only need about 10 days notice. Only thing is, there is a very limited selection, you have to order them exactly as shown in the picture (no substitutions or special orders), and they don't deliver,

I tasted with The Cake Guys on Saturday and it is really, really good.  They have packages called Sweet Inspirations that are really affordable and include the grooms cake.Candy Haven is VERY good and affordable as well.  I believe you get a free grooms cake through them too.

Thank you, ladies! All of these suggestions are great. I've already contacted a few. I'm getting married in Richardson, TX, so in the Dallas area. I live in Austin, TX, so I'm doing everything from a distance. It's not awful, but I just don't have any knowledge of vendors in the area. I really appreciate everyone's help. I've already peeked at some of the DJ threads and used that info, too!! This will hopefully make things much easier. :-) Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!

I tasted with Tabitha Ballard ...I think it was $1.75 per slice/cupcake.  She has a huge variety of flavors.

Re: Elena's Cakes being expensive Well, I guess it depends what expensive to you means. We went with her higher priced flavor of champagane, but it was worth it to us. She works with you, and IMO anything can be made to be budget friendly. We had a fabulous experience with her. Hope this helps.

Hopeless_romantic_luv, Elena's replied back quick!! They aren't super cheap (but they are on the lower end of the average cost), but she does sound like she'll work with your budget. :-)Tabitha Ballard's...wow...that super inexpensive. Thanks! I'll look her up! I appreciate the tip!

I just wanted to butt in about Elena's:  It was more expensive than we originally wanted to spend on cake, but we decided it was worth it!  The cake was absolutely delicious, and she seemed to be more artistic when we were working out cake designs than the other bakers (at least in my experience).   I loved, loved her and found room in my budget!  Our 2nd choice was Panini's, which was also very good.

I would definitely do several tastings when you are in town. I tried a few places that some of the girls loved but I didn't like the cake and vice versa. So tasting is a must. We ended up going with Jackie Spratt and we tried four different bakeries. SHe was a little cheaper than the others but she doesn't do fondant and she is a sassy woman. But I have never had cake so moist and yummy. She is by SMU and her delivery fee is $50 or maybe $25 so it's cheaper than some. Good luck!!

Emimayor- during one of my meetings at Elena's,  she asked how I ended up at her shop.  I told her she was recommended by a girl from the Knot (I don't remember if it was my cake post or someone else's).  After telling your screen name, she remembered you.  We went with the champagne flavor, as well and kaluha for the groom's cake.. yum!  She had so many artistic suggestions.  I'm very excited about that check!

I loved Paninis! I wouldn't call it inexpensive but it was so delicious, I would say it was a good value and the designs were exactly what I wanted. YUM!

Elena's was my bakery as well. I had the most amazing raspberry swirl bride's cake and khalua for the grooms. I could not have been happier.
