Is this sweet or weird?

Cliff Notes: When incorporated into wedding details, does the phrase "bright as the sun" come off as sweet and loving or does it come off as diva-like? When I was spacing out today, I was struck by the notion to incorporate a phrase into wedding stuff.. STDs, decor, etc. Only, I'm worried it's a phrase that might come off cocky or stuck-up. . On my first date with FI, he played me his favorite song ("hello dearest love" by the appleseed cast). There's a set of lyrics that go "she's the one/ bright as the sun/ that stops you there/ right on the stairs." He's used "bright as the sun" with me since then, and it's sort of "our phrase." I don't feel like it just applies to how he feels about me; I feel the same about him . If I use it in a bunch of wedding stuff to represent our relationship, do you think it'll come off as stuck-up, or am I way overthinking this? I don't want to seem all "bwahahaha yes, I am the beautiful bride, bright as the sun, bow to me!" Ok, I have no idea what I'm saying. I'm done now. Thanks.

Re: Is this sweet or weird?

  • Sorry, weird.  That phrase reminds me of something that should be plastered on a second-grade classroom's bulletin board for a lesson on similes.  It also seems kind of insufferably esoteric.

  • It sounds corny out of context.  Bright as the sun as a wedding phrase is weird.  Sorry.
  • How would you incorporate it?
  • I'm not a fan of the phrase itself, but plenty of couples use motifs or monograms. If it's meaningful to you, use it. Or maybe you could use an actual sun or something. Then maybe you could put the lyrics on your program to tie it all together.

  • I think the general idea of using a song lyric is okay, but I don't know about that one. For me, it's not a song I know, so I'd be wondering what you were on about.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • No, I love the honesty! This is good. . I was thinking of incorporating it by having the phrase in script inside a filled-in circle and using it as the central image for our STDs, programs, menu cards, etc. I'd prbably use it everywhere you'd normally put a monogram, which we won't have. . I loved the "insufferably esoteric," btw :) I can see your point! I still like the phrase, but it might not be the right context. I still want to incorporate the sun idea though...
  • I think it is something most people wouldn't get, you had to explain your reasoning behind it to us.I do think that would be something special to inscribe inside your wedding bands.  Its between you and him and will always mean more to you 2.

  • I really like the idea of getting it engraved on our rings. . I'm playing with the sun idea now.. Our colors are the colors of a sunset, so maybe I could use a sun motif with our names or another phrase in it, and then have the whole lyric on the front of the program or something. . I'm very, very glad I asked! :P
  • It requires WAY too much explanation for it to not seem. . . weird.

  • I'm sorry, but I find it weird too.
  • Weird and intensely personal, something you really wouldn't ever plaster on every invitation, program, fan, welcome bag, and favor wrapper.
  • I like the idea of getting it engraved in your wedding bands.  It is more personal and special to you and him.
