Re: Show yourselves!

  • Well, our bracelets are going to need a pearl charm, since all conservatives wear pearls. Right Sarah?such an epic response could only come from heels.*guiltily touching my pearl studs*
  • The thread yesterday about dressing like a "Republican" really made me mad because I had a lot of respect for women on P&E and was stunned by the effin ignorance and stereotypes but now I see so many beautiful conservative women on here and I'm proud to be one!

  • Confession/XP: my sorority's tradition was wearing pearls!
  • And Salt, I'm sure the pics will turn out just fine! Beautiful people in a beautiful place, you can't go wrong, right? I'm excited to see them too.
  • How very cross-curricular of you Kate ;)But yeah, I agree TJ it is a weird knee-jerk reaction coming from certain people who I also find to be extremely open minded to other alternative viewpoints and lifestyles.
  • Confession: I live in PA and I do NOT cling to guns or religion.

  • There are always going to be religious nuts out there, but the strong armed non-forgiving religious right has really died out as a movement in the Republican base. There are so many fascinating books about the 80s and 90s conservative rally cry around religion and how Reagan knew the abortion issue could hand him the campaign. Now, if you take a look at Bible belt America you are seeing a very different turn of religious thinking with leaders like Joel Osteen enforcing values like changing poverty and affirming a bottom up God as opposed to a top down 'takes no shiit' power.
  • I'm a little late, but I'm here. I am usually just reading "lurking" mostly. Sometimes, I'll comment. :-D

  • I will admit to having the knee jerk reaction to conservatives and liberals. But my reasoning is that I was raised in an extremely religious and conservative republican family that sadly fits the majority of the stereotypes, and I hated it. :( In my defense, however, I actually have several friends that do not match the stereotypes, and try my best to not say whatever first comes to mind when I find out what someones political beliefs are and instead try to find out their reasoning. I have fond that I agree with the view points of several of my more conservative friends on fiscal issues, albeit for different reasons.
  • Darnit. conservatives and republicans. Sorry.
  • Okay, so...is anyone going to read Sarah Palin's new book coming out?
  • It is possible to be a Christian republican and not be a crazy person (at least, I don't think I'm crazy). But so many people screw it up that I can see why it is stereotyped.
  • Thanks Kate!! You are so sweet. :)

  • Okay, so...is anyone going to read Sarah Palin's new book coming out? I will. I don't always agree with her, but I love her spunk and I wish McCain hadn't tapped her for VP; she had so much potential to continue to be a great Gov.
  • It is possible to be a Christian republican and not be a crazy personit's possible to be a christian anything and not be crazy, as long as the reasons for your beliefs do not always begin with "the Bible says..." i think you are safe. :)
  • Honestly, I think the conservatives have let the crazies take over their political party.  It's hard to take a party seriously when it allows itself to be defined by teabaggers, ppl who actually think our President is a socialist, and birthers.
  • I will. I still need to read Obama's book, though. I really want to understand where he's coming from - maybe reading the book will help.
  • Oh god Palin. I might have considered going the other way in this past election if not for her. I always was a fan of middle-of-the-road McCain, but when he brought her on, I said no way. Putting her in a position of power over the US would be like giving a monkey the keys to an amusement park.

  • I'm "one of us" too. :)But, I hate talking politics. I can't stand to debate-I'm too much of a peacemaker
  • Nicole- I think part of the issue is that the attention goes to the people who scream the loudest or make the best t.v. Sadly, these people are not normally good reprsentations of any group, whatever they happen to believe in or are trying to represent. It gives the rest of the group a bad or "crazy" stereo type, just because the more moderate people don't make good t.v.
  • I read The Audacity of Hope as research for my senior thesis (35 pages of brilliance, may I add ;) ) and I found it quite good. It reinforced to me some of why I am more conservative than liberal, but all the same there was a lot in it that I liked.
  • It's hard to take a party seriously when it allows itself to be defined by teabaggersI went to a Tax Day Tea Party.  I can tell you it was a very peaceful and respectful demonstration.  I don't think protesting increasing taxes makes you crazy.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • It's hard to take a party seriously when it allows itself to be defined by teabaggersAnd what is so wrong with those teabaggers, random poster? They are citizens like you and I are and they are standing up for what they believe in. I think it's great that they aren't sitting back quietly while this horrendous healthcare plan is shoved down our throats. Regardless of whether or not you agree with them, shame on you for condemning them for standing up for their beliefs. And our President may not be "a socialist," but if you do not recognize that many of his beliefs are based upon socialism, you are in denial.
  • Honestly, I think the conservatives have let the crazies take over their political party. It's hard to take a party seriously when it allows itself to be defined by teabaggers, ppl who actually think our President is a socialist, and birthers. That's the kind of blanket statement we should be avoiding, the kind that pisses people off and makes them not want to engage in conversation with you.I'd read Palin's book.  I'm curious to hear what she has to say.  Actually, I'd like to read Bill Clinton's book as well.  I strongly disliked him, but I have to say that I'm curious.
  • I agree, Salt.  And honestly, I found it offensive as a woman that apparently all the Rep party thought it had to do go compete against an AA man was get a woman - any woman. I also thought it was interesting that all the talk about a woman Dem was that she'd have to prove she could be tough.  But then the Rep woman got to complain left, right and center about ppl (the media) being mean to her. Deep down, that whole thing was just wrong.
