Any rock/alternative brides?

Hello ladies!

So I'm sure many of you are in this same boat - my FH and I are goingcrazy trying to select a first dance song.  Our problem is that we're not big on the typical love songs and power ballads - much more a rock n roll couple.  The nice, sweetly worded songs aren't really our style and it seems like every time we find one we like musically the lyrics are waaayyy wrong for a wedding.  "Our" song is already being used in the ceremony in a different capacity - I'm walking down the aisle to the acoustic version of Foo Fighter's "Everlong."  Sooo... any ideas for a good first dance song?

Thanks girls!

Re: Any rock/alternative brides?

  • here's a few ideas - dont' know if you'll like 'em or not though ;)

Friday, I'm in Love - The Cure
Broken ~ Amy Lee ft. Seether
She Cooks Me Oatmeal ~ Pigeon John
    Lykke Li - Little Bit
    Calling You ~ Blue October
    Sour times ~ Portishead

just a couple i thought of...
  • We are dancing to a classical version of "What I've Done" by Linkin Park done by the Vitamin String Quartet.  They do a LOT of popular rock/pop songs.  People will be able to recognize it, but it will still be fancy and romantic because it's a string quartet.  There are piano versions of songs too.

  • same boat here... fi is more into metal and everyone including fi has kept me well informed of how much they HATE the music i like. lol oh well. I'm trying to look at oldies that every one knows and can enjoy. I am willing to find something that my guests will like over my preferences for this situation but there are things i wont do either. like i refuse to let country to be played. i hate it can't stand it and as much as the reception is there for my guests i have to like it to be willing to pay for it.
  • i LOVE the accousic version of Everlong to walk down to, great idea! Here are a few songs that might work for the first dance...

    Yellow Ledbetter-Pearl Jam
    Today-Smashing Pumpkins (possibly accousic)
    My Best Friend - Queen
Wild Horses - The Rolling Stones
    The Luckiest - Ben Folds

    Good Luck!

  • You might consider this too ballad-y but we are dancing to Nothing Else Matters by Metallica...

  • I'm not sure how alternative you are on the spectrum, but i'm on that end more than hard rock.  That's the fiance and I don't think screamo would go over well :)  We are going to dance to Echo by Incubus, but if we can't pick up the fast pace some backups are
Baby I Love you by the Ramones,
Look after you by the Fray,
Fade into you by Mazzy Star,
    or Fix you by Coldplay.

We aren't dancers, so the dance lessons and back up songs will hopefully help!
