Spray Tan

So, I'm going to get one of those Mystic Tan thingies that everyone's told me about. I'm white as a ghost, and noticed in my engagement photos that I looked washed out, even with makeup. So, I'm going to get a very subtle tan; I don't want to use tanning beds. My question is, how long before the wedding should I go? I know they wear off, so what is the optimal timeline? Thanks

Re: Spray Tan

  • I got my spray tan two days before my wedding. Having said that, I also had done trials previously. If you've never spray tanned, I would get a trial at least a week or two before the wedding to make sure you like the way the color turns out on you and so that you have experience doing it once.

Wear crummy clothes to the appt. as it will rub off on those clothes and will rub off fairly easily until you shower (they tell you to wait I think at least 8 hours to shower). Once you shower, it sets it in better, and after that next day, I didnt have issues with it coming off. I felt more comfortable leaving another day in between which is why I did it two days before and took two showers before the wedding. I still had nice color for a good part of my HM too. I would say my spray tan lasted about a week each time I got one, a little less on my HM because I was in and out of salt water and chlorine.

  • Personally I prefer the Versa machine (if its available to you) Versa comes in 2 liquids clear or bronze. EXACT same color you get 2/3 shades darker off your natural base color so not too much.  The ONLY difference is bronze goes on bronze and clear goes on clear and color develops within a few hrs. I totally agree with the reply above try out spray tanning before you decide for your wedding. #1 exfoliate & shower before you tan #2 make sure your cap is 1 inch into your hair line(wont dye it) and tucked behind your ears. #3 do NOT shower for 6-8 hrs I just prefer to tan at night then shower the next day so you dont risk it. One the 3rd day the tan is the best for me. If you get a spray and dont like it use lemon juice to get it off :)
  • Thanks! This was so helpful!

I would DEFINITELY go in advance. Everyone's skin absorbs it differently. And make sure that you exfoliate you skin before hand to remove and dead skin, this will lengthen the life of the tan.

  • I will say both me and a friend got mystic tans for a wedding.  we both had areas of streaking. So a trial is a good idea.  I've heard air brushing is better, so if that doesn't work for you, you might want to find someone that does the air brushing tan (a person rather than the machine)

  • I've had Mystic and Versa and I liked them both. I think the Versa color is slighly more natural and I like that the color is instant. I would do it 2 days before to give it time to fully develop and to make sure it looks ok. I would also defintiely do a trial  a few weeks before the wedding so you don't get in the booth and forget to turn or something. A trial will also help you learn how to apply the barrier cream so you dont end up with overly tanned hands and feet.
