Dressmaker/seamstress

I've found a dress I like except for one thing--it only comes in ivory. I'm considering having someone recreate it. I've found people on Etsy who can do this, but I'd rather work with someone local.

Any suggestions for a dressmaker? I've tried searching Yelp, Craigslist, and a couple of wedding boards with no luck. I've found one person in Walnut Creek that I might try, but that's getting kind of far (I'm in the south bay).

Here is the link for "Sewing & Alterations" people in the Oakland area according to Yelp.  The only one I've had any contact with is Anne Ventresco.  She works out of her house high in the Oakland Hills.  I was very impressed with her knowledge and easy going nature.  She offered several suggestions for altering my dress at a very reasonable cost.  (I had bought it as a sample and then decided to drastically change it) She had several other bride's dresses there in her shop and they all looked great.  I'm sure she would have done a great job on my alterations but ultimately I decided to get a totally new dress.

Julie Ireland is supposed to be very good.  I almost hired her when I was thinking about redesigning my mom's dress, but I decided to buy my own.  She'll usually do major alterations for under $500.  But you have to book her well in advance.

Thanks ladies. I looked on Yelp, but I don't have a dress to be altered. I need someone who can make a dress from scratch. I'm worried that someone who may be excellent at alterations may not be experienced in creating a new dress.

Julie does seem to make her own dresses, so I'll check her out!

I haven't used, but have heard great things about Kirsten Tucker Designs.   I am planning to use her for alterations on my dress, but she specializes in creating dresses.
